Today we’d like to introduce you to Reina Amo.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Growing up in the Middle East for more than ten years, Reina is a 25-year old photographer, entrepreneur and a marketing professional hailing from Cebu, Philippines. She is now based in San Diego, California completing her MBA. She is passionate about traveling, amazing food, music, photography, business planning and strategy, beautifying things and writing. She always thrives on new experiences and stepping out of her comfort zone to learn more about herself.
Please tell us about your art.
Year 2008, was the year where I started my passion for photography and where I purchased my very first DSLR camera. I have always loved taking portraits and candid shots of people. As time evolved, I started having interest on landscape photography. Being a third-culture kid, I have been exposed to all sorts of art and culture – which included scenic spots of the country, the different ways people live in every country and the story behind it. Recently, she has some growing interest in aerial and street photography. Being able to live in San Diego, enabled me to experience cultural diversity wide range of amazing views. My photos have mostly been about focusing on something or someone that tells a story. Through my photography, I want my viewers to experience or relate on every single photo I post, to recall a specific event or a wonderful memory that helped them remember through that certain photo. Being able to live in the ‘finest city’ of America, I also want to promote San Diego’s beauty and tell the world through my photos, why it is called so.
Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
The world has greatly changed ever since and I think the role of the artists are very vital as they can relay important messages in a powerful way. Art has the power to change the world we live in today. From my own experience, it introduced me to a vast range of truly differing perceptions, ideas and knowledge about the different cultures around the world. Being able to take part in these local and global experiences has profoundly affected the kind of art I create, driving me to make art that I hope touches people everywhere.
