Today we’d like to introduce you to Renea Martoff.
Renea, before we jump into specific questions about the company, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started my company almost 24 years ago. I started working in the entertainment business some years ago for Sony Music Entertainment and ran my company on the side. I like to say I built my own company off of the back of Sony. I was the executive assistant and when my VP would travel (which was often) I’d work on my business once I completed all of my scheduled tasks. I made many connections while working there and booked many events, so I grew my business from all of my entertainment connections and people that I’ve networked with while working there.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the beginning, it was ROUGH! I performed so many free and discounted events for people just to get my name out there to the masses! LOL…I felt the biggest failure! But once I learned my worth, I started to be more confident in my craft and eventually started charging clients appropriate fees to match my talent. It literally took me 12 of the almost 24 years to actually turn my business around and be truly successful and profitable.
Tell us about your company. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of as a company? What sets you apart from others?
So Sharibella Events & PR was originally just Sharibella Events. The PR department wasn’t born until about 7 years ago. I started in this industry as a professional Event Planner and became well-known and popular for the elegant weddings my team and I produced. I wasn’t just your average wedding planner, I also do custom flower design, invitations, custom stationery, floor plans and layouts for almost any type of event. I became so good that I got picked up in several features on wedding blog sites such as: Style Me Pretty, Urban Weddings, The Knot and Ceremony Magazine (online & print). I began to get a lot of inquiries for Event PR and company branding, which I LOVE! It began to do so well that I started doing more PR and fewer weddings. However, we still do it all but lately, it’s been more branding for startup companies, social media influencers, artists and corporate entities. As a company, I’d have to say that I’m proud of the flexibility in services we’re now able to provide our clients. We do everything from planning, design, branding, research analysis, social media advertising and much more!
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I’d have the say one of the proudest moments just came recently when we launched our client’s clothing line. He’s a very young designer in the game and is extremely talented! He’s never built a fashion design house before and neither have I and my team. He’s story and passion to drive the project were so motivational, I just had to take him on as a client. It was very challenging with lots of hurdles and obstacles but WE DID IT! We built a fashion design house from the ground up and we’re still going! Yeah, I’d have to say this is my proudest.
