Meet Rob Niday of San Diego Clemson Club

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rob Niday.

Rob, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
A majority of our Club members are Clemson Alumni while others are just big fans of Clemson University. I became President of the Clemson Club in 2013. Since becoming President, our Club has done two local community events (assisted Father Joe’s organization with a dinner service and last year we raised $500 for the Ronald McDonald House during our viewing party of the Clemson vs Florida State football game). I’ve also represented Clemson University at four different college fairs at Catholic Cathedral. Most of my regular work as President is setting up our viewing parties for all of our football games; our Club meets at Union Kitchen and Tap (downtown).

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No major obstacles. One minor challenge was when I became President I moved our viewing party location from Pacific Beach to Downtown, so it took some time to find a great spot for our Club to meet to watch our games. I wanted to find a spot with great tv’s and great food… and if they give us some special privileges during our parties that would be a bonus (Union Kitchen and Tap gives our Club 20% off our tabs).

Please tell us about San Diego Clemson Club.
Our Club is just a really big supporter of Clemson University. We do have a great time getting together to watch our football games but I’m most proud of the community service we’ve done and the college fairs at Catholic Cathedral.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Time that I spent with my Dad. Parents separated when I was young and so I only had Summer and Winter breaks to spend with my Dad. My Dad lived in North of Chicago so Summers was more fun (due to weather) so we’d fish together in Lake Michigan or attend a Cubs or White Sox baseball game.

    Hey there!

Darlene Rutledge Parsons here, wife of Clemson grad Jeff Parsons. We are die hard Clemson football fans.

We are in the process of moving into Temecula, CA. My husband is saddened to be so far from Clemson. I would love to host a surprise gathering at our home to surprise him. I want to show him Clemson is alive and strong in South California. I welcome all ideas to make this happen. We have a large covered patio with outdoor TV with pool.

We moved here for my career so this would mean a lot to him.

I am open to BBQ, get acqainted before and during football season.
