Today we’d like to introduce you to Rob Robbins.
Rob, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My business partner and I have been good friends since junior high school. We have always talked about opening a restaurant together. So, in 2012, we decided it was time to quit our jobs and move to home to San Diego to pursue our dream. We were both working at my father’s restaurant at the time, Milton’s, when we came up with our concept and found our first location in Pacific Beach. We launched our flagship location in Pacific Beach on May 4th, 2013 and we now currently have 19 stores open with another 10 stores opening this year across the country.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Of course there has been some obstacles and challenges along the way. Learning which type of locations work and don’t work for our concept has been the biggest challenge. I think we have a very clear picture now of what future locations we will be going into.
So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Baked Bear story. Tell us more about the business.
We specialize in custom ice cream sandwiches, where customers can mix and match their top and bottom between 10 cookie flavors, brownies and donuts and choose their ice cream in the middle. Every store makes all the cookies recipes from scratch daily. Our Baked Bear ice cream is craft, super-premium, made with r-BHG free cream. I am most proud of serving a product and experience that brightens up our customers day.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I think luck has played a huge roll in my life and business. For example, I do feel lucky that we found the Pacific Beach location when we did because I know now how hard it is to find a good location. However, Shane and I put an incredible amount of work into this business for it to succeed and are working every day to improve it even more.
