Today we’d like to introduce you to Robby Ewing Nicolas Shellhammer.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We started Landtrends Inc in 2022 after seeing the demand for true gardeners in the San Diego region. We all know how many “mow and blow” landscapers are in the area, but we wanted to create something different than just the run of the mill landscaper that comes to your house to mow the lawn and blow off your patios. Nic has a horticulture degree from Cal Poly, and Robby grew up in the industry – his dad started Miramar Wholesale nursery.
We have always wanted to start our own company, and realized there would never be a “good time” to start. While both working at a high end landscape company in San Diego, we both made the decision one day to just go for it. We didn’t have anything but a couple of shovels, and a little truck to start. We had a few maintenance contracts and were fortunate enough to be referred a couple projects with awesome clients, and we were off and running!
Today- We have 12 employees which make up two full time maintenance crews and two construction crews and operate out of our business yard in vista.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Having a great network and strong relationships has made the process fun but manageable.
We’ve been impressed with Landtrends Inc. , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We have been in business for 3 years and specialize in high-end gardening and installation service. Our specialties include evaluation of plant health including seasonal fertilization, insect control, pruning of plants, and identification of problems in the garden.
We as a company are passionate about working in the garden and strive to be the best in the industry. We understand that your landscape is an investment, and take pride in doing things the right way the first time, to avoid any future problems and headaches for our customers. People hire us to manage their gardens, and take that off of their plates.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
We have been fortunate to develop strong relationships across the industry, from vendors to contractors to loyal customers. CBLA, Uproot designs, and retail nurseries we know have referred us to several new customers. Our biggest supporters and cheerleaders have been both of our families, who have encouraged us to take the leap out on our own, and follow our passion.
