Meet Robby Gira, Trevor Mulvey and Keith Haman of Trouble in the Wind

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robby Gira, Trevor Mulvey, Keith Haman.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Robby, Trevor and Keith. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
High school friends started jamming in an unfinished garage about 2003-2004, trying to learn how to play instruments and write songs. After college, we tried our hand at recording our songs and touring, which led to bigger and bigger shows with a loyal fan-base and a great hometown community.

Lou Niles from In Your Neighborhood Music and 91X came into the picture a couple years ago and worked with us to put out our latest album “Hammer On.” We are currently promoting with appearances around Arizona and California, with plans to expand out through 2019.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Its a breakneck mountain pass with thrills plenty and a glory wrought with hard work, sweat, and tears. We have persevered through deportations, breakdowns and hard rain.

But the memories are sweet and the patchwork that embodies our sound is stronger than ever. We Hammer On!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Trouble in the Wind – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We’re a rock and roll band with some eclectic aesthetics. Our songs fit the typical folk/rock/pop format for the most part, but we’re always trying to keep the arrangements interesting. People seem to be drawn to our eclectic choice of instruments.

In out, the five-piece band are drums, bass (electric and upright), three guitars, pedal steel, accordion, banjo, piano, and organ. It makes for a tight fit in our touring van, but it allows us to explore spaces of a song that might be neglected with a more traditional guitar/bass/drum setup.

We’re very proud of our latest effort “Hammer On.” We’ve recorded most everything ourselves in the past, but for this one, we decided to record at Rarified Studios in North Park and had our friend Dave Matthies engineer and assist in production.

The results are what feels like a natural way for us to explore the new sonic territory. We have some horns on the record and really stepped our game up in the vocal harmony department.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Things are changing quickly here, but at the same time, it’s been a ten-year-long journey to find ourselves in the present. Our touring schedule is becoming pretty regular: going up the coast and playing our show for new audiences. Every run gets better, and we’re working to keep growing it and reaching further until they won’t have us anymore!

Additionally, we’re always working on new music. A lot of bands tour the same set of songs for years to where the audience knows what they’re going to do before they do it.

We like to surprise folks and keep our sets varied and interesting. Part of that is making sure we always have new tunes to throw in there. We appreciate anyone who takes the time to come out and see us, so we feel like we owe them a good time.

Adding new tunes, or old ones we haven’t done in a while, keeps things engaging not only for our hardcore fans but for us too.
