Meet Robin Boland of Julian Chamber of Commerce in Julian

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robin Boland.

Robin, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Our family moved to Julian in 2004. I am a volunteer by nature and I also did admin work remotely for a number of small & micro-businesses. I began volunteering with the Merchants Association and established many great, rewarding relationships and continued my volunteer work and expanding my business to serve Julian.

I was elected to the board and have since been elected to the Chamber of Commerce board. When the position to manage the visitor center/chamber office became available, it seemed like a perfect fit for me. Our kids were grown and out of the house and that allowed me the time to dedicate full time to the merchants of Julian.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a smooth road. Julian merchants are just so great and so many of them have become a valuable part of my life both personally and professionally. I have grown in knowledge and in the services that we can provide to them via our chamber of commerce. I may have created my own struggles by doubting my abilities, but never my commitment to those we serve. Helping people achieve their goals is in my blood. So, I work hard to figure out new and effective ways to do that. I also have great support from the people I work with here at the chamber.

Please tell us about Julian Chamber of Commerce.
The Julian Chamber of Commerce works to spread the word about the joys of visiting Julian, whether it be for the day or for a getaway. We understand the uniqueness of our area and strive to educate the region on just what is so wonderful about visiting our area. Julian is peaceful, full of history and is surrounded by the beautiful mountains of San Diego and offers a wide variety of activities for those who want to get away from the noise and all the activity buzzing around the city.

I am so proud of the volunteers that I get the opportunity to work with and serve. They each have their own business and/or priorities and yet they take the time to help promote the entire community. Giving of their time to serve. I really respect that.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Commitment to the people I serve. I am a problem solver. So, I find a way around obstacles. I keep the finish line (ultimate goal) in site and work till I get there. This is not a job to me, what I do is part of who I am.
