Meet Robyn Scherer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robyn Scherer.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I have always had a passion for photography. I received my first camera as a gift when I was 8 years old. I was always the “friend with a camera”. 🙂 As soon as my husband and I met, I began documenting our lives together and then included our children. I actually have old fashioned scrapbooks, and now online-to-print scrapbooks, that tell the story of our lives for almost 30 years this May.

I began my business 4 years ago when I decided I wanted to spotlight seniors in High School as I have 3 teenagers of my own. I recognize that your teenage years and, especially your Senior Year, are very special times in kids’ lives. And, of course, having my own family, I recognize that each family has their own story to be told and to be cherished. That’s how I came to focus on those two niches.

Please tell us about your art.
I focus on Senior Portraits and Family Lifestyle Photography.

For teens, my hope is that I can encourage a teen to see not only their outer beauty, whether a girl or a guy, but their inner beauty/strengths as well. Seniors are in a special time in their lives where they are on the cusp of “adulthood” and all the freedom that has to offer. They are ready to spread their wings and take flight. However, they know they need their parents for a while longer so it’s a very tender and special time. I really enjoy the age group and hope to capture them so they can see their light shine.

And families. Well. I have 3 kids and a dog and a cat. There is so much that goes into the fabric of a family. The ups and downs. The vacations with stories, the private jokes. There is a rich story to be told with each family. My hope is that I can capture that on film for the families so that they can see AND be reminded that they are each loved and that they have a tribe. A place to call their own that is very special.

Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
Wow! The only advice I have is that you have to stick with it. It’s not going to be easy but it’s so worth it! Find groups that support you! Find groups where you can ask questions. Rising tides lift all boats.
