Today we’d like to introduce you to Julien Thiebaud.
Julien, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
As a car designer, I have always worked on side interests and projects, including watches design, which I started around 2008. My day job, passion for everything automotive and motorcycles, combined with my love for watches allowed me to meet a lot of people all around the world. Most of the car designers do something linked to a personal passion on the side and a few years back I started getting contacted by a few of them.
Everybody did something on the side but did not know how to get organized: That’s when I regrouped everybody under one banner and created Rogue Collective, which became the outlet for our side creations. The goal simply being to spread the word about what we do and what we love. I think the main difference with our group is we only work with people sharing our passion, no mainstream major outlets, franchises and sales driven businesses. Which is awesome as it allowed us to meet a whole new world of enthusiasts!
I was born and raised in France, moved to Italy for a bit then eventually ended up in Detroit, Mi when not speaking English at the time. After a short stint in Tokyo I moved to San Diego 9 years ago and decided to settle down in this amazing city.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Extremely smooth road as our target is not to become rich but just to spread the love of our passions. Since there aren’t any financial goals it’s all about the fun!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Rogue Collective – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I think that, as I mentioned, what separates Rogue Collective from other talents representation agencies are two things:
-First we only, or mostly, represent car designers.
-Second, we do not work with mainstream distribution retails. “Cars designers working with Enthusiasts”, that should be our tagline!
We provide our artists with additional retail opportunities and a larger network of enthusiasts who can potentially become clients, than what they would get on their own. This also allows them to make new connections and gives them unexpected business opportunities for their art, craft, etc.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Expand! We just hired our first partner and agent in NorCal and are hoping to soon have branches in London and eventually Asia, starting with Japan. There is SO MUCH talent in the car design community, we MUST allow the general public to discover it!
A personal dream would be to be able to bring Car Art into homes of non-car enthusiasts for example. I think we have several pieces that would fit the bill in our collection.
