Meet Ross Geraci Aka VX of Planet X Records in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ross Geraci Aka VX.

Ross, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We founded Planet X Records officially in 2008, our first release was “Guerrilla Warfare” LP in 2010. Since then, our flagship artists “Guerrilla Alliance” have released a trilogy of projects. Myself (VX) was Boston based until 2017, with Mac The Rebel being located in the tri-state area. We also released records from east coast artists MC Therapist, Alphabetik and more. As Guerrilla Alliance my group has worked with elite underground Hip-hop artists such as Canibus, Ill Bill, Killah Priest, and west coast staples such as Chino XL, Vee Eye, Highdro and many more.

I’m also a battle rapper, I perform with “CRS Battle League” in San Diego, Shout Out to Sherrie Ellie owner of “Cut It Roll It Smoke It” Brand Check them out, and #RIPRyanBowers.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been rather smooth, after the first album that is (which took us four years to complete) After that, we followed up with “Empire of Fear” LP which showed much improvement in every aspect. “The Dark Rift” LP our latest offering is out now everywhere. We’ve had just about every issue there is to be honest. From bad business, to album pressing delays, promotional scams, all the usual. Luckily I have had legendary mentors such as “Hell Razah” of Wu-Tang’s Sunz of Man to prepare me for the worst. My advice to newer artists is to make sure you’re publishing paperwork is proper.

Please tell us about Planet X Records.
I am the owner of “Planet X Records”, and additionally frontman of underground hip-hop group “Guerrilla Alliance”. As well as solo artist “VX: Heaven’s Assassin”, and a battle rapper. It’s a lot, I know. I make all the major decisions for the label which involves promotion of 5+ artists including myself and my group. I run the official website PlanetXRecords.Net as well as our youtube channel. When It comes to organizing Guerrilla Alliance projects, I am involved in everything executive production-wise, from helping conceptualize the artwork down to picking the audio samples for interludes on the songs. Mac and I pick the beats ourselves many of which we produce or we find from outside sources. Given we are 20+ releases deep in the game I am most proud of our longevity we have a worldwide fan base that goes back to 2002 when Mac and I were making lo-fi mixtapes which was our only resources at the time. What sets PXR apart from other indie labels / companies is 1). Knowledge our musical content “sub” genre is known as “Spiritual Hip-hop” which is a pretty small niche only fans of Sunz of Man / Lost Children of Babylon will have heard of. Our music goes way deeper than some guy rapping about himself or where he is from (or she). Think the energy of Rage Against The Machine with the content of Public Enemy and “Hobo with a Machete Mix CD Coming SOON!

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Difficult to say, as I am a firm believer in “everything happens for a reason”. Of course, I would have researched some things more before acting. There are definitely people who would have been cut off from the movement in retrospect. A lot of what PXR was built on were learning lessons, and knowledge accumulated by going out and doing it.
