Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruslan Fazlyev.

Ruslan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Ecwid was born to make it super easy for SMB to start selling online. Started as a Russian company, eventually, we relocated to the USA to be closer to our customers.

More than one million merchants registered with Ecwid, and the company was named as the hottest tech company originating from Russia by Google and Forbes.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the tough questions venture capitalists ask startup is “What if Google enters your space”. Our answer was simple: Google already did.

It took us 9 months to build the first version of Ecwid. The project was all secret, we were so excited about the upcoming launch. And yet one week before the launch, Google announced a launch of a similar product: eCommerce store builder embeddable into any website.

I was devastated. I was lying flat on the floor of my office, unwilling to get up. That lasted for one hour. Then I decided to build, persist and push the growth. Years later, over Ecwid has grown to over a million registered stores, and is a de-facto standard for private label eCommerce. too.

Ecwid – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Ecwid is the easiest way to add an online store to your website. It covers all you need to sell online, including a product catalog, shopping cart, payment system; it manages shipping, tax and inventory for you.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Career is not about a moment, a dot in time, but about many small dots connecting to a path. The achievement I am a product the most is taking a group of 3 friends, no investment at all, and growing it to become a pioneering eCommerce platform, powering over $3B in transactions annually.
