Meet Amber and Chris McClure of RV MD Mobile Service in Valley Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber and Chris McClure.

Amber and Chris, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Chris was enrolled at UTI (Universal Technical Institute) in Avondale, AZ learning all about auto and diesel mechanics. One of his professors asked him if he could help him work on his RV when he wasn’t in school. Chris said yes and started working on it as much as possible. Chris become so interested in doing this kind of work that he took on a few jobs at random RV repair shops, some small, some very well known. He came home one night and told me about all the crooked ways the companies were making money off customers and how he just couldn’t be a part of that. At that moment, we knew we had to start our own business. One that prided itself on the customers’ satisfaction and honest work. We started RV MD in 2011 once we moved home to Valley Center. We spread our name via word of mouth, Facebook and Craigslist. We went to every RV park from Chula Vista to Hemet and gave them our business cards and mission statements. Slowly but surely, we had calls coming in. We grew our business from the ground up with not one customer and are now one of the only companies in Southern California that major manufacturing companies call for their customers’ repairs. We wouldn’t be where we are today without the amazing customers we have! So many of them recommend us to family and friends or pass our cards out. We offer military and first responders a discount on service. It’s truly amazing when you find your calling doing what you absolutely love!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
You know, I think with anyone starting up their own business, it is hard. Even with countless hours of research on what to do, not to do, what taxes to pay, having employees or not, it is just plain overwhelming. When we started, we had just had our first daughter so we were running on fumes most days. In between answering the phones, making sure Chris’s schedule was in line and making sure everything was in perfect running order, we made it work. Chris is the expert (as I tell all my customers lol), without him out there at the customers’ homes, we would not be where we are. Some days are still hard, some days you get those customers who just cannot be made happy but in the long run, it has been worth every second!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the RV MD MOBILE SERVICE story. Tell us more about the business.
We are a mobile service company that works on RVs, Travel Trailers and Fifth Wheels. When I say mobile, I mean, we go to the customers home, their campsite, the desert, wherever they are and do the work on-site. We offer the most competitive prices out there for the convenience of having work done on-site. We pretty much will do it all for you. We repair all appliances, generators, slides, jacks, etc. We do Roof replacements and recoats. Flooring, remodels, customizations, engine work and preventive maintenance! What sets us apart from other repair shops is that we care about our customers. They are not just another number. We will never tell you things are wrong just to make a dollar more off of you. We pride ourselves on our quality of work, customer care and getting the job done right the first time! Being mobile is a great way to help those people who live full time and cannot bring their coach into a shop and leave it for weeks.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I’m not sure I really believe in luck when it comes to things like this. I mean, I could say we’ve been lucky to have the customers that we do. The ones who call again and again for any issues they have. The ones who have become friends over the years. I dont think it is luck that has made us who we are though. I think it is the hard work and determination that has made us strive for the best, to be the best. From the day we started up, we have pushed ourselves to do our best in all aspects of the business. Now with three little ones at home to provide for, we are more than ever pushing ourselves to succeed! No luck needed, just the passion and drive.
