Meet Ryan Pyle of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Pyle.

Hi Ryan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Born in Toronto, Canada, Ryan Pyle spent his early years close to home. After obtaining a degree in International Politics from the University of Toronto in 2001, Ryan realized a life long dream and traveled to China on an exploratory mission. In 2002 Ryan moved to China permanently and in 2004 Ryan became a regular contributor to the New York Times. In 2009 Ryan was listed by PDN Magazine as one of the 30 emerging photographers in the world. In 2010 Ryan began working full time on television and documentary film production and has produced and presented several large multi-episode television series for major broadcasters in the USA, Canada, UK, Asia, CHINA and continental Europe.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think everything was rolling along very smoothly until the Covid 19 pandemic destroyed the entertainment industry, and a lot of smaller producers like myself have struggled to get back to full scale production.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am known for making a Tough Rides motorcycle television series, and in our first season of that series we set a Guinness World Record for our season in China. We then followed up that series with adventures in India and Brazil. Then I created another series called Extreme Treks where I complete human powered adventures all around the world.

How do you think about happiness?
Being really far out there, deep in remote Nature; the natural world has a real healing power that very few people in our busy urban centers never get to experience.
