Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Kmety.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Sam. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After working in the hi-tech corporate world for nearly 20 years, I needed to make a change. I was always interested in personal marketing and printing. I was indirectly involved in all print projects during my 20-year career and I finally took the leap to go my own.
From starting out with just a handful of clients, I am now the largest non-profit print company in California. I spent years knocking on doors with bags of candy and a business card. Today, I am proud to say that we are a nationally recognized printing company. Our clients are 75% non-profit and 25% for profit who are business partner of the 70%.
Has it been a smooth road?
Not at all. Wanting to conquer the world and having limited funds/cash flow was a struggle. I always knew our GIVE BACK and Partner2Provide programs would set us apart from every printer in the country. However, I had no idea that changing a mindset would be so hard. Having been a 20-year success in my previous role, meant nothing to my new business. But, as a former marine, nothing was going to get in my way.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the ThePrintersCircle story. Tell us more about the business.
We have 2 programs. 1) the GIVE BACK program. This program allows non-profit customers to take advantage of deeply discounted pricing while also securing in-kind donations and sponsorships. We create a business plan for our clients that identify those print projects we can price at levels nearly 50% less than what they currently pay, we donate many and projects that my business partners would be willing to sponsor either in-kind or in a supportive role.
The second is our Partner2Provide program. This program uses the profit from for-profit customers print dollars and moves that profit to a charity of their choice. This is a widely successful program. My sales pitch is simple. Let ThePrintersCircle send donations to a charity of your choice. You’re spending the money anyway, so why not spend it with us and let us donate for you!
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
My vendors are my greatest asset. For 14 years I have selected vendors who believe in giving back and who believe in the GIVE BACK program. The more clients we add into the GIVE BACK family, the lower prices go for all of our clients. I also have a strong design team. THEY make me look good. ALL credit goes to my relationships.
