Meet Samantha Hubbell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Hubbell.

Samantha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
When my daughter was born in 2008, I left my corporate job to stay home full time. About a year into the whole stay-at-home-mom thing, I was desperate for some sort of creative outlet and that’s when I discovered the world of blogging. I had always enjoyed writing so it seemed like a natural fit. I started my own blog in 2009 sharing home decor and DIY tips, as well as some of my shenanigans as a new mom.

Fast forward, ten years and I had two children who were both in school. I started looking into freelance writing as a way to combine my love of writing with an income that would allow me to be home for my kids and set my own schedule. I love connecting with new clients and figuring out how to translate their ideas into written content that helps support their business goals.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
While setting your own hours and working from home seems like a dream, it can be challenging. A lot of people have now experienced thanks to covid-19. It takes focus to stay productive and to learn how to manage your time efficiently.

To be honest, it’s also harder to find clients that want to pay reasonable rates with the growth of online sites where people take writing jobs for less than minimum wage. I’ve been fortunate to find good clients, but it took time to learn how to market myself as a writer.

Samantha Hubbell – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I specialize in content writing for small businesses. I write blog articles, content for website pages, social media, and even press releases. Blog writing is still my favorite because I get to really dig into a topic.

I think what sets me apart is that I’m always strategizing in addition to creating the actual content so that I can serve my clients in the best possible way. Whether that means figuring out a unique angle on a specific topic or suggesting ways to up level their current content plan, I want to exceed their expectations. That’s what really develops positive client relationships.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I had to write a fairly technical post that required extra research on my part just so I could understand the topic. The client sent my article to a scientific advisor for review and his response was that the post was “surprisingly good and accurate.”

While it’s not your typical glowing review, that comment still makes me laugh. Clearly, he didn’t expect that a hired writer would be able to grasp the concept and explain it clearly to others, but I managed to do just that.
