Meet Dr. Samuel Wagg of FIX Body Group in Mission Valley and Rancho Bernardo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Samuel Wagg.

Samuel, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Born and raised in rural Maine, I can’t say I had a super clear vision of what I would do for a career or how I would leave the world a better place. Going through elementary to high school, I broke ten bones in a two-year span. This lead to a lot of experience with physical therapy, hospitals, surgeries and rehabilitation. I appreciated how the body worked and those for helping me get back to myself each time.

I decided I would pursue a career in physical therapy. It made sense with my experience and I thought about how I would liked to work with my physical therapists in the past. So I set off to undergrad at the University of Maine. I completed my capstone class with 300 hours in a PT clinic. During this time, I didn’t experience what I had imagined. I felt the doctors were limited with their scope of practice, and it felt routine to me. Through a few conversations, I started to look more seriously into chiropractic. The more I learned, the more I loved. I felt I had found a fit and an approach that would let me make an impact on the way that I originally envisioned.

Fast forward a few wild weeks and I now live in Florida while pursuing my doctorate in chiropractic. While in school, I found out I had a spinal disease with no known cause. Most others experiencing this condition were severely limited, experienced daily pain and sought pain management as the only solution. Right then, I was pretty appreciative of trusting the process that had been my life thus far. A few pieces came into clarity. For one, living a shitty life full of pain was never going to be me. The second aspect was at that level of schooling, I saw how all the systems worked together and knew that even more was needed. (more what was needed?)

I knew I needed to find like-minded providers who also saw this. This is when I found my mentor and friend, Dr. Shawn Robek, the founder of FIX Body Group. Since then, sparks have been flying as we have continued to innovate with the times and never stop growing. We knew that structural care only was scratching the surface. Nutrition, exercise, fitness, and hormones all needed to be addressed to truly make change. Most importantly, patients needed guidance and mentoring, which we were not seeing in the insurance model of care.

I’m honored to work with a team of relentlessly committed individuals because that is our DNA at FIX. Our mission is empowering individuals to resolve their health conditions by “conquering from within”. Our approach is based on listening to our patients, learning from each other and then living well together. What has come to fruition in our clinic and in my life has been incredible. My drive has always been to make as many people happy as I can for as long as I can. Being on this earth for as long as possible has always been an integral piece of that equation. I couldn’t be more excited to continue to grow and expand our ability to change patients’ lives.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Stayed back in kindergarten, killing it out of the gates. The injuries along the way were set backs. Completely tore my pectoralis muscle off my bone in grad school. Many many many learning curves when healing patients with your hands.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the FIX Body Group Story. Tell us more about your work.
We take an approach of listen, learn, live. It’s beyond frustrating to hear how many patients have had life long symptoms and feel “unheard”, how can this be, when their whole life they have seen Doctors?

We treat the patient as a whole by first listening and hearing their concerns. We learn from each other as we go through care and continue to modify treatment. Then best of all, we live well together. Through our affiliate company, we offer regenerative medicine. Truly harnessing the healing power of the human body, coupled with corrective exercise, diet, hormone optimization and detoxifying the body, we leave no stone unturned.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I truly feel I have the most incredible parents. They have always been there for me and as we say at my house, “3 strong” My first mentor will forever be my father and it drives me to add as many years to my parent’s lives as possible. My business partner Shawn, for taking a chance on me and pushing him until I ran past him. I couldn’t think of anyone else I would ever want to work with. More than that it’s everyone I work with.

I grew up in a small town and have had the same four best friends since five years of age. That type of bond with none blood relatives is rare, I find, and incredible. I know they would be the first to make fun of me and the first to take a bullet for me. Our senior year in High School, we only had 16 kids on our football team. The four of us and the remaining seniors made up our 11 players and we never came off the field. The first game of our senior year season, we played a team with 63 players. We won 51-0. That was when I knew you could outwork and outperform anyone if you wanted it bad enough and even better if you had the right relationships.
