Meet San Diego Comics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bobby Bellman.

Bobby, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I began shopping here as a customer back in 1997 and after spending close to $30-$40 on comic books a week, I asked the original owner Greg if I could work for him. I worked with Greg for over 5 years and he sold the store to a loyal customer named Frank. Frank owned the store for 3 years and decided to sell the store to me where I have now owned the store for the past 2 years.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has its ups and downs, our biggest struggle would be trying to order the right amount of titles to sell in our store as retailers have to order comic books 6 months in advance.

San Diego Comics – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
San Diego Comics has been in business for over 25 years, we have specialized in a huge back issue selection ranging from silver age, bronze age, modern age, and current comic books. We try to carry at least one issue to every title ever created.

In addition to our extensive back issues selection, we pride ourselves in being the most personable comic book shop in town. For example, a lot of our loyal customers just like to come in and have a discussion with us without even buying a single comic book.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
San Diego Comics was listed as a 2016 San Diego Cityvoter A-list finalist.
