Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Harris.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Sara. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started creating at a really young age. I never really liked toys and when my mom took my siblings and I shopping I’d always choose a paint by numbers or a new art tool. I grew up reading and painting and drawing and I loved magazines. I used to always imagine myself on the covers. Because I was so young my parents didn’t want me to start modeling until I was 18. Because then I would be more mature and be able to handle the crazy life better. So I continued to pursue art. Every art class in high school I could take it was on my schedule. I ended up going to Art Institute for photography. Being a photographer there was a never ending need to have a subject to photograph. So that’s how I started to be in front of the camera instead of behind. The more I did it the more I loved it. In 2017 I walked in my first fashion show. I was 3 months pregnant at the time and wondering if I’ll be able to continue doing shows, the show was a total rush. I loved the craziness and chaos that all led to just a few seconds on the runway. Each gig I got after was really just word of mouth. I modeled till I was about 6 months pregnant and I took a break till after having my daughter. I started to do it off and on while working full time but in July of 2019 I quit my job to pursue modeling full time. To me it felt like home. Like it was what my whole life had led me to do. All of my experience in theatre, my love for fashion and art, it all combined into modeling. I get to become the canvas for the art and transform into whatever character is needed for the shoot or show. I love where I am now and am so thankful to everything that’s gotten me here. And I’m excited for everything to come.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely has not been easy. But no road to success ever is. I think the hardest thing about being in the creative industry is not knowing when the next job will be. You just have to figure out how to live a day to day while also hunting for gigs.
After having my daughter I suffered with postpartum for a long time. I did have much motivation to do anything really. Luckily I had my husband to get me through it and come out even stronger. He’s been my rock through it all, and he pushes me to keep going and to never stay just comfortable. I wouldn’t be this far with out his support.
There will always be a different struggle or obstacle to get through, but I wouldn’t have it any other way because I’m able to do what I love for a living.
Please tell us about Sara Maxine .
I am a full time model and artist. What sets me apart from others is my mindset. My job as a model is to portray the vision of the team. Whether it be moody or sassy or sweet or sexy. Whatever the look that is given it is my job to rock it. For me, it is easy to disassociate myself from whatever look is put on me because at the end of the day The shoot or the show is not about me. It’s about the clothes, or the makeup, or whatever it is that I’m modeling. I never complain, and I’m always on time and ready to work on any set. I think I’m best known for being easy going, whenever I am on set I try to be professional but still have fun.
As an artist, I strive to create things that make people think and reflect or feel something. I use watercolor and pen mostly but I work with acrylic paint/ colored pencils as well. I love to mix media and involve flowers. Nature has different meanings and I love to involve it in my drawings to push boundaries of what is normally expected. I’d described my style as surrealistic because I like to create a different kind of world.
As a creative I want nothing more than to inspire others. And to help them learn and see their potential. I love doing what I do because it allows me to connect with so many different people in the world.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over I wouldn’t change anything. The way I grew up, the challenges I’ve faced. It’s all made me who I am today. And today I’m someone I can honestly say I am proud of because of how far I’ve come as a person and an artist and a mother.
