Sara, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
As a working mom, I often found myself searching for a better solution to the carpool chaos. When it came time to school pickups, dropoffs, baseball practice, saxophone lessons, and meetings, I simply couldn’t be in three places at once. I saw other working parents facing the same issues, and thus created Kango as a solution. From Day One, my mission has been to help other parents, especially mothers, in the workplace. By taking carpool duties off their plate, Kango allows working mothers to rest assured knowing that their kids won’t have to sacrifice their own goals and dreams just because of their parents’ career.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Like any startup, the road is never as smooth as you think it will be. When faced with key transition points such as fundraising, I had to justify, and vouch for, the values and the responsible growth approach that we have taken with the company. Not everyone agreed with our decisions.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Kango – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Kango is an award-winning rideshare and childcare service for families on the go. When transporting a family’s most precious cargo, Kango knows that safety and trust must be paramount in our business. Our drivers undergo extensive background checks and vetting, including in-person interviews, Trustline certification, fingerprinting vehicle inspections, and reference checks (to name a few).
We are the only rideshare for kids service that offers same-day bookings with no cut-off times, and we’re the only service in the kids’ rideshare space insured to drive kids of any age, including kids under the age of five. Kango recently announced a Series A funding round led by strategic partner National Express, the premier school transportation company. This fundraising fueled our recent expansion into the Orange County and San Diego areas. With this partnership, we’re able to help more busy families get where they’re going with ease.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We’re planning to expand our areas of service, making Kango a household name synonymous with trust, safety, and reliability.
