Meet Sarahi Diaz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarahi Diaz.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Sarahi. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
How I started is kind of a funny story because it was COMPLETELY unexpected and unplanned. I had always been interested in creating and details but business was never really in my mind.

A little over two years ago, July of 2017 to be exact, as I was in my classroom working as a preschool teacher, I had this random idea of selling chocolate-dipped strawberries and florals online. Why dipped strawberries? Because in the previous years I had enjoyed working as a chocolatier at a Chocolate Factory and really, that was all I knew. Why flowers? Because I’ve always loved flowers and both things put together seemed like the perfect combination.

Soon after I got the idea, I texted my brother to tell him about it and ask him what he thought, his only response was “DO IT!” I took it very literally and from there, I figured out a name for the company, I had a logo made, I created a Facebook and Instagram page and within the next two weeks, everything was out and running through social media and word of mouth. The rest is history…

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I don’t think running a business is ever a smooth road. For me, the hardest part of running The Art of Details has been (1) staying consistent and faithful even when things aren’t going as expected, (2) innovating, finding new ideas to succeed and be better rather than giving up and (3) being okay with failure. I started with just chocolate-dipped strawberries and florals but a few months in, I realized that doing just that wasn’t cutting it so then I added wedding florals to our repertoire and then time later, we also added pastries. About a year later, I opened a physical shop in Mexico. At the time, the idea sounded like a great way to get known and expand, however, and unfortunately, the idea didn’t quite go as planned and a year later, we had to close due to financials.

As you can imagine, each season or each added service has brought its new figuring-out-struggles and learning-experiences but every addition has made the business better.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Art of Details San Diego story. Tell us more about the business.
The Art of Details focuses on florals, decor, pastries and details. We believe in the importance of details, love and excellence. We believe details truly do matter and make a difference.

I’m sure we’ve all received that gift, whether big or small, that changed the trajectory of our day, week, month, year or even life and that’s exactly what we hope to do through every and any detail. Through every detail created, we hope to change trajectories and remind people of how loved, important and special they are in the most affordable and accessible way.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
“If you want to go fast, go alone; but if you want to go far, go together” and I believe that to be my ‘luck’ factor. The Art of Details wouldn’t be where it is now without the support of the large community of family and friends that I’ve been blessed to be surrounded by. In other words, the number of people I can reach with my circle of influence is limited but when we all come together and unite forces, the impact can be much, much greater and that’s what has helped me to not only get more out there but to always keep going and striving for more.
