Today we’d like to introduce you to Sasha Zeilig.
Sasha, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Come Play Events, and the Body Dive ™ Method bloomed out of people’s yearning for fulfillment. Rooted in pleasure, and nurtured by connection, they blossom happy, healthy human beings.
I came into this world on a mission to cultivate connection… as an only child of divorced parents, I sought to create my own “chosen family” with friends. Early in my childhood, I found theatre and pursued a career in it well into my 30s.
Through plays, I found people who were connected to their bodies, brains, and emotions utilizing all three components of human-being-ness as tools for self-expression. I found fulfillment in the “family” dynamic generated by spending the majority of my time co-creating art and enjoyed the value placed on process rather than product. I felt at home there.
But as technology grew stronger, I feared for the longevity of theatre as it was being presented on proscenium stages, recycling outdated stories and making the audience invisible by basically telling them to sit down, be quiet, and pretend you’re not there.
I thought I can do that from the comfort of my couch, in my PJs, with the convenience of a pause button. Why bother getting all dressed up to gather with other people only to disappear into the isolation of silent darkness as soon as the performance begins? I desire a shared experience!
That’s when I decided to start producing interactive theatre in which the audience members participate. I did multiple experiments in this discipline, but the idea that stuck was one I learned in my youth from the classic game Truth or Dare where “everyone plays, and everyone spectates.” This interactive game can be played by anyone on any occasion and includes everyone!
So over the past eight years, I have created my own take on the game. Called Honest & Brave, it includes more than 300 pre-written challenges that push the envelope. Three different ratings keep players safe from unwanted embarrassment: E for Everyone, a silly, lighthearted version that can even be played with family; M for Mature, which is more flirtatious and asks deeper questions; and K for Kinky for those who want to get sexy.
As my spiritual practice grew and my knowledge of dance, psychology, and transformational practices increased through working with mentors and attending women’s gatherings, I saw how my theatre skills could translate into real life, and thus, I became a Play Coach (like life coaching, but more fun).
Has it been a smooth road?
As soon I decided I wanted to be a coach, I got a coach… and then another and another and another… Eight years later, I’ve had multiple mentors who are experts in myriad areas ranging from Reiki, sound healing, and Chinese Medicine to yoga, dance, and art therapy, to psychology, philosophy, and business.
I pull from a wide range of knowledge, but taking my own medicine has been my most effective tool. Now, I lead clients to find their own medicine through the Body Dive™ (a guided meditation technique that optimizes the integration of Body, Mind, and Spirit which I created two years ago).
Looking within myself and observing children whom I’ve taught, I’ve realized that play is the easiest, most painless, efficient, and effective way to learn, shift, and expand anything. This insight has been confirmed by neuroscientific research. Creativity has been freeing for me, just like playing as a child or in the theater.
Expansion and growth can be challenging, so why not speed up the process, take out the perfectionistic carrot-dangling mantra of “I’ll be enough when…” and simply enjoy the growth process through fun? After all, pleasure is our birthright.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Come Play story. Tell us more about the business.
Come Play specializes in Interactive Events that focus on connection – enabling people to inhabit their bodies and relate to others in Oneness. Being real is what sets Come Play and me, as a coach, apart from others. Come Play offers people a chance to simply be themselves, feel witnessed and accepted, and connect with others in an authentic way.
Come Play events incorporate fun as an unequivocal staple of life. These playshops foster social justice, intersectionality, and equity. Come Play participants are invited to stand in the inclusive circle of “Power-With” where all individuals are valued and respected for their uniqueness, propelling the old pyramid paradigm of “Power-Over” into the past.
Play Coaching sessions range from self-exploration to business development and include embodiment practices such as self-expression, energy healing, and creativity. Each meeting is led by the client’s goals and desires of the client. Through Body Dives ™, the client leads themselves to exactly what they need. Time spent in nature, self-care and allowing one’s inner child to play is highly encouraged.
Come Play promotes the truth that imagination is real and is the spark of all things manifest. Through Come Play events and Play Coaching sessions, players are inspired to lead lives of joy and fulfillment. Learn to live your most YES LIFE….
The company’s accomplishments include empowering women to speak their truth through four years of annual Goddess Gatherings; facilitating open communication at monthly full moon Purple Circles™ (discussion groups for men, women, and all genders to talk about consensual sex and healthy relationships); and leading people to trust their inner truth, discern the choices that are right for them and give themselves the pleasure they desire through the Body Dive™. We are our own best medicine for what ails us.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Beyond the coaching industry, I see a future freed from stigmas that separate us, unfettered by a society that limits who we can be, and emancipated from the violence of rape-culture. I envision a peaceful world where we respect Earth’s resources, one another, and ourselves.
By training facilitators, I see Purple Circle expanding into a global movement (similar to Red Tent), in which people converse in small groups to share knowledge, practice honest communication, and understand consent so that we may transform dysfunctional taboos into divine unions.
I imagine a network of certified Body Dive™ facilitators helping people to stop “shoulding” on themselves and follow their bliss. Come Play will continue to inspire creativity, play, and connection in every Body!
