Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Fletcher.
Lisa, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It’s with great joy that I have the opportunity to share the story behind the creation of my business, Seven Gates Birth! It all began with the decision to follow my heart’s calling to serve women traveling their journey of motherhood, after having emerged from my own challenging entrance in becoming a mom. I had experienced a difficult and unfortunately unempowering birth experience, which in turn left me with debilitating anxiety in my postpartum period.
I struggled in trusting my inner intuition to care for this new precious human and found myself desiring a deeper connection with other women, who simply understood and could relate to this significant transformation and the struggles that came with it. I decided to start studying all things related to birth and with that I found connection with other women, many in which had also experienced an unempowering aspect of their own child’s birth. It was from this profound personal experience and other women’s stories, that my desire to study, pioneer, and offer supportive and compassionate care for those on the mothering journey first began. It has only since continued to grow! From this desire to support other mothers, I have studied with impactful birth professionals that are seeking ways to change how we support women in birth so that women feel heard and offered choices to their desires in how to birth. I am proud to have become a certified holistic birth doula of The Matrona Foundation, a certified postpartum care provider of Innate Traditions and a trained Birthing From Within Childbirth Educator.
Has it been a smooth road?
I definitely have had to overcome personal obstacles before being in a place to fully devote energy to this passion and the women that I serve. First and foremost, mental and emotional healing from my own birth experience, as it’s very important to have a full glass to serve from. Serving others has been such a rewarding experience though that inspires me to keep striving for more positive change in how we treat, discuss and support one another on this parenting journey. I truly believe it’s through our lived personal experiences, that we gain the most insight to where the greatest growth opportunities exist. It’s from this place in which my inspiration for the services I offer at Seven Gates Birth have originated from.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a birth and postpartum doula, as well as, childbirth educator, offering holistic, heart-centered and a mindful approach to offering care to expecting families. My utmost intentions are to listen, hold space and offer loving guidance, wherever each family may be on their own intimate journey. I truly believe that we each hold the wisdom within to our deepest desires when we connect with our intuition and truth. I’m here to be of support, as we travel the path of your incredible journey to discovering your own voice and inner strength.
I offer support through birth and postpartum doula services, ceremonial and community workshops for mothers that honor this significant life transformation, pre/postnatal yoga classes and Birthing From Within™ childbirth education classes. One other offering that I integrate into my services that I consider unique is that I weave a Japanese energy healing technique called Reiki into all my services. Reiki focuses on promoting relaxation and healing to anyone by restoring one’s “life force energy” by channeling universal energy through certain hand placements. It’s my greatest desire to offer a calming and peaceful presence to the women I serve and Reiki definitely supports that goal. I also enjoy hosting unique workshops for moms, where they can come be in a loving community with other moms and take some time for self-care. I guide them through the creation of a personalized mala bracelet out of a variety of healing gemstones that resonate to their own unique mothering journey. Once complete, these mala bracelets function as a daily reminder to moms of their inner strength and wisdom. It is a true privilege to be a part of such a significant time in these women’s lives and be of witness to one of life’s greatest rites of passage of motherhood.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I really love San Diego and feel so fortunate to call it home! I mean what’s not to love!? The people are friendly, the weather is wonderful, the food is delicious and most importantly there are more and more birthing options becoming available to families, which makes my heart sing!
