Meet Shaina Braun of The Plan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaina Braun

Shaina, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in the East Bay Area of San Francisco and made a move to San Diego in 2019. I’ve always loved travel, planning, organization, and giving recommendations! I decided to turn this passion into a business in my new home of San Diego. The concept came from my own experiences of FOMO and a background in event planning. I wanted to utilize my planning skills while solving a problem I was experiencing in my own life: what should we do today? And not only, ‘what should we do?’, but what’s new and cool and the place-to-be. I had friends constantly asking for suggestions of things to do around town and trying to figure out the best way to enjoy their home when they’re bored on a Tuesday afternoon! I created this service to help others who have ever experienced FOMO, the feeling of needing to spend “free time” wisely, and the desire to live life to the fullest! Nothing makes me feel worse than reaching the end of a Sunday and realizing I missed out on XYZ’s “cool thing” to do. The plan solves this! Since its inception in July of 2020, The Plan has taken on different forms. We are currently a subscription-based service that provides full itineraries of things to do to our Planner members twice a week! We provide all the Plans via a quick text with a link to all the info. In 2021, The Plan will evolve to offer some exciting new planning services.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Launching The Plan was confusing! But what an amazing learning experience. I’ve always been an entrepreneur at heart, but I really had no idea how much went into starting your own business until I was doing it. I’ve always heard that the best way to learn how to swim is to jump in the water! You can’t learn everything from a book. So, I spent months asking friends and mentors their advice on launching a business – and eventually, it felt like it was time to jump in. I truly dove in headfirst and registered my business with the city of San Diego and purchased 24 months of website hosting! From there, I started with what I *thought* my potential audience would want. Then, the road got a little bumpy… I wasn’t gaining the following or subscriber base that I’d anticipated, so I had to take some time to backtrack, ask for feedback, and create new offers. I am still in this process! I don’t think entrepreneurship will ever be a smooth road, but it sure is a rewarding and interesting one.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

How do you think about luck?
I love the concept of luck. I strongly believe that everything happens for a reason and that you can always look at something from a different angle to figure out how it’s happening FOR you and not TO you. It’s not always easy, but it is possible. When starting The Plan, I was “lucky” enough to have found a free women’s entrepreneurship group called Quench Collective, which hosts free training every Friday morning via Zoom. This group taught me SO much before I even knew I wanted to start a business, and it was all just because I was in the right place at the right time. Hindsight is 2020, but the more I look back at my experiences, the luckier I feel because I can see how one thing led to another. Even if The Plan never becomes anything more than what it is now, I can already see how much it taught me and the connections it brought me.
