Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Holmes.
Shannon, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
San Diego’s Finest All-Stars was started back in 1998. We started a youth basketball program using outdoor basketball courts in Carmel Valley. At this time we were one of the few Club Basketball ball programs that was all year round and cater to the youth. At the same time, we were providing clothing to represent the beautiful people from San Diego.
In 2005 Coach Holmes became the Freshman Basketball coach at Cathedral Catholic High School which gave the SDF ALL-STARS basketball program a GYM to use. Working with the Varsity Basketball at the time Demetrius Laffitte we changed the youth Basketball program name to Carmel Valley Stingrays – San Diego’s Finest (2005-2015). In 2015 the name changed back to San Diego’s Finest All-Stars.
Our program is unique where we cater to everyone that wanted to learn how to play Basketball from Beginners to Advanced players.
The Clothing part of the Company is unique as well because the clothing brand caters to everyone from babies to adults. San Diego’s Finest aka Daygo’s Finest was to create a good feel for whoever had on our product. Our brand speaks for itself. when you enter a room our clothing let people know who and where without saying a word.
Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing is ever smooth when you are one of the first programs like ours. We had to build the trust of the community. Shannon Holmes is originally from New York City. He played basketball at one of the Nations top High School programs Christ The King. He also played his college years at New York Institute of Technology.
People in San Diego later found out that his knowledge and passion for the game was second to none.
The clothing Brand was started for simple fact that Coach Holmes loved fashion and coming from NY (Queens Finest) they love to represent where they are from. So hence where San Diego’s Finest was started. People would always ask what is San Diego’s Finest? and the answer would be it’s YOU! So it took some time for people to understand that the SDF Brand represents them.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with San Diego’s Finest – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
SDF ALL-STARS sets apart from other programs because we opened our doors to everyone. We feel everyone is an ALL STAR in some degree. Whether you are an All-star to your family or friends or on a Basketball court.
We specialize in teaching the fundamentals of the game. The Basics!
We are known for allowing kids to enjoy Basketball no matter what their skill level is. As long as they are willing to work hard and be part of a Team.
We are very proud that we are able to give KIDS an opportunity to enjoy the game! Where some programs close the doors because a kid is not at a certain skill level. We are very proud that we are able to create HAPPY FACES on KIDS!

San Diego is a beautiful place all year around. From the people to the weather and the scenery there are no dislikes.
Coming from New York City San Diego is very different.
