Meet Shannon O’Brien of Naya Wellness Center in La Jolla

Shannon, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Never in a million years did I think I’d have the job I do, but that’s the beauty of life and where it leads us!

On a daily basis, I have the privilege in helping, so many individuals feel comfortable releasing their poop, and in turn, having better bowel movements because of the service I provide.

It all started at Massage School one day when one of my best girl friends was crying. We all thought she was crying about a guy (those heartbreakers lol)

It turned out; she hadn’t been able to have a bowel movement in a week. This was unheard of to me, and all I wanted to do was help her.

So all us girls laid her on the massage table and started massaging her abdomen. We were determined to get some movement happening for her and some relief.

As we massaged her, she continued to cry and mentioned she made an appointment at “Naya Wellness Center” to get a colonic. This became of interest to me because I had been learning so much about the body.

I too called Naya Wellness Center and made an appointment; I thought it would be great to try a session.

As soon as I tried my first one, I was hooked! I never felt better.

I remember during my session, I had so much poop come out of me. I was shocked. I purchased three sessions each two weeks apart and continued hydrating my bowels. With further hydration, there was more poop.

Let me say this-We don’t realize how much poop we can hold onto. Mentally, physically, and emotionally.

During my sessions, I asked tons of questions to the therapist, at the time and was truly fascinated in learning all aspects of this job and our bodies. Within a few months, I was having regular sessions and felt better after every one.

I couldn’t stop spreading the word of colon hydrotherapy, and I wanted to scream it to the rooftops to all of those in need that this was infact a life changer. I wanted to reach more people and help them feel comfortable and not feel ashamed to talk about this.

A few months later, I was presented the possibility of taking ownership of Naya Wellness Center. After lots of excitement, tears, self-doubt, questions, and hesitation, I trusted myself with the support and passion I had in helping others, and I became trained and certified as an I-ACT Certified Colon Hydrotherapist and took ownership of Naya Wellness Center on November 2017.

After almost two years later, here we are!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
You know being a business owner, people think you have it so easy and that’s definitely NOT the case! You never stop thinking of your business; it’s almost like having a child, especially for those that don’t have any children.

I’m a one-woman show here, and it can be exhausting at times, but when I lay down to sleep at night, I’m always satisfied and say to myself “So and so feels so much better today and got relief and this makes me happy.”

It always means so much when people understand and respect small business owners and their work and dedication.

There will never be another person who cares about your business more than you do! That is the honest truth!

I would say in the most positive way, that running and owning a business is not easy, but so very rewarding!

Please tell us about Naya Wellness Center.
Administering over 2,000 colonic sessions, I’ve never once had a client leave telling me they don’t feel better from when they walked in. There is so much mental clarity when we can see the release of what we are holding onto.

Each session is between 40-45 minutes. Upon arrival, you will fill out a health/intake form for your safety and mine. After reviewing it during your evaluation, making sure it’s safe for us both to move forward, we then begin your session. I explain and introduce you to the “Angel of Water” and explain the self-insertion of the rectal nozzle. I am not a doctor; therefore, I am not allowed to treat, prescribe, or diagnose. I so look forward to the possibility of meeting, and working with you to feel better and healthier.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Pretending I was Ariel from “The Little Mermaid” always brought me a lot of joy due to the daydreams of finding a Prince Charming while I was splashing in the tub.
