Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaun Savage.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In 2014, the idea for GoShare came to me after several bad truck rental experiences. At the time I was 31 and was working in a sales role at a media company. I was an instant fan of the sharing economy and wanted to see if we could use a similar business model and technology to connect truck owners with people who need a truck on demand. We started getting some traction by posting ads online for our future marketplace to generate driver sign-ups while we were building our MVP (minimum viable product).
In order to finance the business, I had to sell my condo, burn through nearly all of my savings and downsize my lifestyle a few notches. My mom invested an additional $25k and agreed to help with customer service. We hired a few software engineers to build the platform over the next six months. We launched the service in April 2015 in San Diego and New Jersey (my home state) and have been growing ever since. We were part of the EvoNexus incubator for two years which provided mentorship and office space. This helped us sign deals with several enterprise accounts such as Costco, Pier 1 and HomeGoods. Eventually, we were able to get outside investors to join us as well, and we are now in a position to grow rapidly.
Our goal is to make it easier for business and people to deliver big box items using technology and a dynamic workforce of delivery professionals. We currently support several thousand active delivery professionals and tens of thousands of customers in CA, AZ, CO, TX, GA, FL, NJ with more coming soon. We are focused on hiring great people in sales, engineering, marketing, product and customer service to help us build the largest network of trucks in the world. We have over 32 on our team today with offices in San Diego and Fortaleza, Brazil.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it’s been a bumpy road. There are new struggles all the time. We’ve struggled with everything including people, pricing, product, legal and many more. Luckily none of them have been catastrophic.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the GoShare story. Tell us more about the business.
GoShare connects truck owners with people who need a truck on demand. We utilize cutting edge mobile and web technologies to make it easier than ever to move, haul or deliver large items. I’m most proud of the way our team of employees and contractors have come together to create a better experience for our customers. Our large network of truck and van owners in addition to the technology are what sets GoShare apart. We focus on creating great experiences for our customers and a great culture for our team to work in.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I feel lucky.
