Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherrie Long.
Sherrie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my career apprenticing under a celebrity hair dresser in London. We did hair for fashion shows, and fashion photography. I loved the lights and glamour on set and wanted to continue down that path, so I decided in order to do that, I needed to learn more! I moved from London to Los Angeles & enrolled at The Institute of Studio Makeup LTD in Hollywood, CA. I learned everything from basic beauty makeups to special effects. With my knowledge of both hair and makeup now I moved forward working on small films requiring special effects makeup as well as fashion and advertising photo shoots. To date I have been a hair & makeup artist for almost 25 years. I work with some of the top names in the business and also operate a hair & makeup agency called Artists by Sherrie Long where I mentor and book artists for photo shoots, red carpet, & events.
I have worked with Diane Lane, Robert Di Niro, Rose Mcgowan, Al Pachino, Holly Madison, Even Rachel Wood, Joe Pesci, Will Smith just to name a few…
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I had a very good jumping point when I started out, and had some great experiences apprenticing. I truly believe in education, & working with a mentor will excel your knowledge and career. Being self-employed is never easy, there are slow times and lots of competition, but as long as you are educated, you will have the upper hand and will be the first choice when clients are seeking hair & makeup artists.

I operate a mobile hair & makeup company. My staff & I bring the salon to our clients. We offer a very convenient luxury service. I’m most proud of my staff. I have above & beyond the best group of artists in the Bay Area. We truly listen & understand our clients’ needs and make certain we are providing exactly what the client wants in every case. We serve the Bay Area & Beyond & have been hired in all parts of the world.
