Meet Shotsbyskylaflame of East Baltimore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shotsbyskylaflame.

Hi Shotsbyskylaflame, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started in East Baltimore, using photography as a way to tell my story and capture what I was seeing around me. At first, it was just me creating, learning, and finding my voice, but over time it turned into something deeper and more intentional. As I grew, my vision sharpened, my purpose became clearer, and my work started reaching beyond my immediate environment. Today, I’m still evolving—pushing my craft, staying grounded in faith and experience, and using my art to reflect truth, growth, and impact.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. There were moments of doubt, limited resources, and times when I had to push through without much support or recognition. Balancing life, faith, and the grind of staying consistent was a real challenge. But those struggles shaped my vision, strengthened my discipline, and taught me patience. Every obstacle played a role in sharpening my purpose and pushing me to keep going, even when it wasn’t easy.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a photographer and creative who focuses on telling real, intentional stories through my work. I specialize in portraiture and conceptual imagery that blends emotion, faith, and lived experience, often pulling from my roots in East Baltimore. I’m known for creating images that feel raw, cinematic, and honest—work that makes people feel something, not just see something. What I’m most proud of is staying true to my vision while continuing to grow, even when it would’ve been easier to follow trends. What sets me apart is my purpose-driven approach: every image has meaning, depth, and a reason behind it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t really look at it as luck. I see everything—good or bad—as part of the process God allowed to shape me. Some opportunities came at unexpected times, and some doors closed when I thought they should open, but each moment taught me something. The wins didn’t come from chance, and the losses weren’t wasted. Everything played a role in building my discipline, sharpening my vision, and preparing me for what I’m walking into now.
