Today we’d like to introduce you to Simone Feroci.
Hi Simone, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I started playing bass at 13 years old when one of the local bands in my hometown (Parma, Italy) needed a bass player.
From there to playing with musicians way more experienced than I was, to touring Europe, and finally to the States, where I work with musicians all over Southern California, all in a 23-year-long career!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been everything but smooth.
Living this lifestyle means not being able to commit to certain kinds of work or personal relationships. I lived in four different countries (so far!), so my life is far from a sedentary one, and all of this can be an obstacle sometimes: a sacrifice in the name of music.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I play bass guitar for other bands and musicians, both in the recording studio and on stage: I also compose music for other artists and help them bringing their musical ideas to life.
I wouldn’t say I’m “known” for anything particular, as my job is pretty much “in the background,” but I have been playing bass and composed for several productions from Italy, UK, and the States.
The thing that sets me apart from others is my stubbornness in delivering something that would make both me and my client happy: I take pride in my work, so I don’t settle for anything I would perceive as mediocre.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters to me is being able to express myself through any artistic means. I always tell younger generations that music (and art in general) is a language and should be used as such.
It’s also very important to support each other and be there for people who work as hard as you to achieve their goals.
