The little shop is an invitation to discover treasures for one’s home, lifestyle, and music that will fill the mind, body, and soul.
With love behind the way one selects items, Soet brings products that are chosen well and less often.
To choose items for one’s home and lifestyle, it is more than an affinity. Does it invoke connection to your life? Does it share a part of you?
We ultimately want our lives stress-free. By having pieces, you love in your home and lifestyle can help keep it this way.
Our vision continues to evolve.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
One of our first challenges was delays in construction of the building. We were originally planning to open in June 2019. However, due to some unforeseen construction issues, we opened late September 2019. This gap, however, was a blessing, as it gave us the time needed to be more creative with the space.
Another major obstacle has been COVID-19; which we share with other small businesses. As a small retail shop, we were forced to close our doors for months before allowed to re-open. We currently have safety protocols in place for the best interest of our customers and are still navigating how to bring more awareness and foot traffic into the shop.
Soet – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Soet is a unique retail gift shop + upstairs music den that resides at the foot of Abpopa Hillcrest Boutique Hotel in Hillcrest, San Diego, CA.
We pride ourselves in carrying a collection of new and used vinyl turntables and mindful products that support local artists and artisans:
Locally + ethically made goods including beauty and personal care products, custom woodwork pieces by owner Pall, finely curated wares, jewelry, home decor, vinyl, and turntables.
With the ever-changing landscape of our vision, we have become more heavily focused on the music aspect. We currently buy and sell new and used vinyl.
We are gearing up to begin offering vintage and pre-loved clothing in the store soon.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Soet and the owners behind the brand view success as the ebb and flow of balance between work and life. We believe that success is relative to happiness and not necessarily by a monetary value.
One thing that brings us happiness at the shop is customers getting excited about a vinyl they find, custom made table by Pall or a unique piece of jewelry.
