Meet Sonia Hebert

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sonia Hebert.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I became interested in photography while attending high school. I had an amazing teacher that encouraged me to pursue my dream of becoming a photographer. After graduating, I attended a college in Orange County where I studied Photography and Art. While in college I started to make connections with other photographers and began assisting with weddings. I was hooked after shooting my first wedding.

After working with other photographers for two years I began to book my own weddings and branch out on my own. It was not long after starting my own business that my fiancé proposed and we were married. His job moved us to San Diego where we have lived for 28 years. The photography market is a bit different in San Diego, but I adjusted and began booking weddings. After the birth of my first son I decided to slow down and cut back. My focus changed from weddings to portraits.

Now, my three children are grown with families of their own. Being an “empty nester” has allowed me more time for my photography. There have been many changes since I began to take pictures. We only had film back then and portraits were very posed. I love the new loose style of taken pictures. There is so much more freedom now to be artistic and catch those special candid moments. I am happily back to shooting weddings along with families, children, maternity, engagements, newborns and births.

Please tell us about your art.
I try to tell stories with my photography, convey emotions and make lasting memories. I love capturing the special moments that happen when my clients don’t realize I’m photographing. A mom kissing the top of her daughter’s head, a bride and groom praying before they take their vows, or a new dad being ever so careful when he holds his new baby for the first time. When doing a session I shoot continually, catching those sweet, unexpected moments.

It’s my hope that my clients realize how much I care about them and love what I am doing. I also do my best to put them at ease and make the session fun. I’m always learning, growing and trying new things.

As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
As an artist, success is doing what I love and blessing others at the same time. I think it is important to be dependable, patient, kind, thoughtful on time and a person of my word.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I have a website at SoniaHebertPhotography.com as well as an Instagram and Facebook page under the same name. Feel free to check out my pictures. If you like what you see give me a call.
