Today we’d like to introduce you to Eti Domb, L.Ac. MTOM, DCCM.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Eti. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I began studying Chinese Medicine in 1994, inspired by my best friend in Israel who was one of the first Acupuncturists in Tel Aviv. I graduated in 2000 and have been in practice since. I started teaching right out of school, at the School of Healing Arts in Pacific Beach. I love teaching and it was a great way to meet other healers and integrate into the community. I taught classes on Chinese Medicine theory for bodyworkers, Chinese Medicine herbal first aid, Herbal medicine for bodyworkers and a few others. I also became a clinical supervisor at the Mueller College of Holistic studies clinic and Pacific College of Oriental Medicine student clinics.
In 2009 I started studying with Dr. Arnaud Versluys and joined the Institute of Classics in East Asian Medicine. Becoming a Diplomate of ICEAM in 2012 was a big accomplishment, and the Tian-Zeng lineage of which I am a member will continue to guide me in the future. I am working toward my clinical fellowship certification, and am almost done. In 2013 I was hired to teach several classes at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine and worked there until 2015. I have been focused on my practice full time since then.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I come from a supportive and loving family that has been there for me along the way. I moved here with my family from Israel in 1992 and started going to College. Integrating into American culture and also studying Chinese Medicine was an interesting and dynamic process. I loved it. Challenges occur regularly, and I have gotten through tough times over the years, (sick children, my father going through emergency surgery earlier this summer, to name a couple).
Tell us more about your practice.
I use acupuncture, herbal medicine, and herbal consultations. I am a general practitioner with diverse areas of expertise including chronic pain management, autoimmune diseases, women’s conditions, sleep disorders/insomnia, hypertension, digestive issues, and more. I work with people in person or remotely via FaceTime or Skype.
My clinical experience allows me to treat a wide variety of conditions using Chinese medicine techniques, including ailments that are difficult and confusing to diagnose. Each treatment plan is customized for my patient’s individual needs, addressing the symptoms and underlying cause of the condition.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I feel that luck is a major component of life, and seeing things in a positive lens that allows me to see the times when I was lucky. One of my favorite stories is of the time when I was starting Chinese medicine school in 1994, I literally bumped into my would-be mentor of 25 years (and counting), Ze’v Rosenberg, in the hallway of Pacific College. My friend from Israel met Ze’v at a conference earlier that year and told him about me, but this was before the days of social media and we didn’t connect until that moment and realized who the other was. I began apprenticing with him a while later. We still see each other weekly! I have been fortunate to have a stable practice location for the last 12 years, and love my work. I feel very lucky to have found my calling in life so early.
