Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophia Boyle.
Hi Sophia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Over the last ten or so years I poured myself into my career. I grew up being raised by an incredible single mom and we didn’t exactly have a disposable budget. I wanted to make sure I was successful enough to support myself, travel the world, and live the life I wanted to live. With that drive came success. I built a solid career in tech sales with restaurants. While I’m still putting my all in my career, I knew I wanted to do something for myself. I’ve always wanted to build a side career in social media, whether that was blogging, YouTube, Instagram… I’ve always loved creating content and sharing life, lessons, and fun outfits. After everything we all went through during the pandemic, I figured the time was now. So, in June 2022, at 32 years old, I started my fashion-influencing side hustle. It’s been an incredible 5 months and I’m learning something new every day.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s a roller coaster, that’s for sure! There’s a massive learning curve on social media, not to mention the consistent strategy changes you need to make in order to adapt with the changes in the social media apps. It’s constant trial and error. But you live and you learn. I’ve learned consistency is so key when building a career in social media (or any career!). It’s given me so much knowledge so far and I’m honestly enjoying this ride.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve been working in hospitality for over 10 years, pouring my heart and soul into my work. But with every company I’ve worked for, I’ve always been met with social frustrations that were out of my control because I was merely just an employee.
I wanted to take a passion of mine and put it into something I can grow and hopefully support myself in the future, so I decided to start building a career in fashion influencing. I’ve always really loved social media, connecting with others, and sharing my positive energy. Fashion can look like sometimes look like such a trivial, materialistic industry, but it’s truly helped me build my self-confidence that I’ve always struggled with. Through fashion and connecting with good humans, I’ve really grown into loving myself and I want to help others feel the same. I believe this is what sets me apart from other fashion creators, my sunshine energy.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there! People crave connection. Getting uncomfortable and putting yourself out there is half the battle, but once you do, it’s only going to help you. I’ve met incredible people through social media who are doing exactly what you’re trying to do and want to help. Every time I reach out to create a connection, I approach the situation with honestly and love, which always sets the tone for a productive conversation. While there are not so pleasant people out there, I find there are less of those than the good ones. 🙂
