Today we’d like to introduce you to Spencer and Evan Burton.
The story of Indubious is not for the faint of heart. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Indubious was forged in the fires of pain and destruction, only to emerge powerfully with a message of transformation. Evton and Skip, brothers and bandmates born with Cystic Fibrosis and convinced by doctors of their impending death from an early age, have emerged as a powerful force for change and the future of conscious music. Their only choice has always been mind over matter, and time has proven that their unbending visionary outlook, combined with an inspiring message of love and hope, has not only helped them overcome personal hardship, but catapulted their music onto the world stage with an unstoppable momentum.
Based out of Oregon, Indubious has released three albums over the past few years, including Wake The Lion which was produced by EDM/Dub/ Reggae pioneer Gaudi. Their new album From Zero, released on July 1st, 2017, debuted at #6 on the Billboard Reggae Chart, (http:// www.dailytidings.com/entertainment/20170720/oregon-reggae-band- indubious-no-6-on-billboard-chart) and #8 on the iTunes Reggae Chart, and features legendary guest artists including Dancehall icon Sizzla, Vaughn Benjamin (of Midnite and Akae Beka), and songstress Zahira. From Zero is a mix of conscious Dancehall and Roots Reggae with top level production. All songs were written, produced, and engineered by Indubious, and released on their own label Righteous Sound Productions.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We have always had challenges, but we view these challenges as integral life lessons that have made us what we are. Growing up being told by doctors you were going to die by 18 has really shaped us, and we view this innate glimpse at mortality as a huge blessing. It has helped us dig deep into Spirituality and why we are here, fueled our musical fire, helped us learn about proper nutrition and mindfulness. Gives us purpose and inspires us to help others learn from our battles.
We have a motto that is “Live Indubiously”. It’s basically a call to view all of your pain and suffering as a teacher, and to transmute it into strength.
Indubious – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are the founders, and creative force behind Indubious, a reggae inspired musical project that has spanned the course of over a decade.
We’ve had the privilege of playing with some of the most influential artists to us, and have created a very loyal fanbase. We have been blessed to travel the world, play some amazing festivals, and continue to grow.
We specialize in using our unique life paths as a vessel for positive change and growth in the world and our communities. We aim to inspire and be authentic expressions of our artistic viewpoints. We want people to know how much power their thoughts and words carry, and to empower them to take them as serious tools for transformation.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Wow, so many. We got the privilege of touring in India, which was life altering to say the least. We’ve had fans come to us with very inspiring stories of how our music has changed the course of their lives, which always feels good to hear. We’ve performed with greats such as Blondie and Ziggy Marley. We’ve been able to raise money for causes near and dear to our hearts such as Standing Rock, and a little girl with Cystic Fibrosis when her family was struggling to pay medical bills. We believe in serving humanity to the best of our ability, so it makes us proud when we can do that and also live our passion.
