Today we’d like to introduce you to Stan Hayduk.
Stan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I began painting out of High School, mainly on summer vacation from college. Moving to California in 1976, I formed a partnership with another painter and began contracting in the North San Diego area. In 1982, I moved to Mammoth Lakes and, while managing Mammoth Reservation Bureau, painted condos in the off season. Moving back to San Diego in 1987, I began Stan Hayduk Custom Painting as a full-time business.
Stan Hayduk Custom Painting is a sole proprietor California licensed and bonded company offering 47 years experience in all areas of prep and application. I am the person you will see from beginning to the end of each project. Once hired, it is your project that becomes the focus of labor and expertise. I am versed in all paint materials, specialty finishes, drywall repair, pressure washing, office maintenance (EL CAMINO PEDIATRICS, Encinitas, CA for 29 years as well as extended knowledge of color and product lines.
In the past, I have been called to consult on research and development of protective coatings for Ecolite USA (www.ecoliteconcrete.com), and worked as the panel finishing supervisor for a commercial project at Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, CA. The construction and finished product, South Mesa Lodge, can be reviewed at: http://www.ecoliteconcrete.com/pdf/102708.pdf. The job experience at Ecolite led to extended research and awareness of protective coatings for all exterior surfaces.
I have also worked as a consultant for Capstone Custom Homes (www.capstonech.com) in the Midwest on residential building materials and components to upgrade their quality and integrity.
I have an enclosed trailer with all tools of the trade and knowledge to safely operate along with pictures and referrals of jobs completed.
My company is based on the belief that our customers’ needs are of the utmost importance, and is committed to meeting those needs. As a result, a high percentage of our business is from repeat customers and referrals.
We offer discounts, upon request, for Pastoral, Military, and Seniors.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As a sole proprietor, sole owner, and sole employee, the challenges are usually to do with timing and scheduling. During the period from 2003-2007, I did hire a single employee and the rates for worker’s compensation insurance and added liability were so high, it did not seem reasonable to maintain an employee-based business.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Stan Hayduk Custom Painting story. Tell us more about the business.
I would estimate that 80% of my business is referral and/or return business. I have the most loyal client base and have testimonies on my web site as an example.
My business is attentive to all the areas that most serve the client and with a base of Sub contractors, most all situations of repair or remodel are able to be addressed. Uniqueness of my business is the matter pf return business and the integrity that I demand of myself.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t really believe in luck, but I would say that the Lord has blessed me and my business because I represent Him in the way my business is run!
