Meet Stray Monroe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stray Monroe.

Blurring the lines between pop and indie rock, Stray Monroe pride themselves on their high energy and humble nature, taking influence from the likes of The Strokes, Oasis, and The Velvet Underground. With a sound that will take you on a nostalgia trip through several decades while still feeling modern, Stray Monroe has set themselves apart from anyone else in the Southern California music scene.

In March of 2018, the band released their EP ‘Momentary Vertigo’. Spearheaded by the single ‘Seaside,’ and a VHS inspired music video to go along with it, the band began to develop a cult following. Stray Monroe prides themselves on their high-energy live performances; allowing them to tour all over California and Mexico, and open for national acts such as The Academic and Weathers.

Stray Monroe is currently back in the studio with a desire to push the boundaries of popular music and leave a positive impact on everyone that listens. Blake Imperl (vocals/guitar), Brett Kelly (bass), Colin Croft (drums) will have you reminiscing about the times when life was simple and carefree.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. When we were first starting, we expected success overnight. It was a steep learning curve trying to understand how to become a better band. We learned a lot from our early endeavors and definitely think we’re stronger for having experienced them.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
We’re an experimental pop-rock band. We specialize in writing songs that people can relate to. We’re known for our live performances and unique sound that has allowed us to stand on our own in a crowded music industry. We’re most proud of our last album, Momentary Vertigo, which we released a few months back.

What were you like growing up?
We all had a profound love for music from a young age. The cool thing about the three of us is that we discovered music in totally different ways. We were all relatively shy people, so we turned to music in our teenage years.

Outside of music, sports played a big role in our lives. We all grew up playing sports and having dreams of being a professional athlete. Once reality set in that we weren’t going to make it as a sports superstar, we all turned to music.
