Meet Diana Olmeda of Surrogate Alternatives in Chula Vista

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Olmeda.

Diana, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Surrogate Alternatives was founded in 1998 when I became inspired to share my own surrogacy experience with others. Two years prior, I spent all of my time and energy researching infertility and third-party reproduction. I met with industry professionals to strategize and find ways to make Surrogate Alternatives successful. Built from the ground up when there were only a handful of agencies located in California, Surrogate Alternatives has become known and recognized worldwide as one of the leading surrogacy and egg donation agencies in the United States.

The goal I had in mind when choosing my career path was to implement the strong morals and values I grew up with and build something my employees and I could be proud to be a part of. Our agency provides a top-notch service while keeping costs down for our clients. Surrogate Alternatives has grown from a single person operation to a team of a dozen experienced and dedicated employees.

Surrogacy and egg donation was a field of personal interest to me. I know first-hand, the pain of infertility, as a close family friend of mine was unable to become pregnant due to her late stage diabetes. It wasn’t fair that the joy of parenthood could be stolen from her so easily.

It’s a human right to procreate and to know what it feels like to love someone so unconditionally and completely, I knew I had to do everything and anything I could to help others if I was able. I’ve personally been a surrogate twice and given birth to three babies. I’ve also been a five-time egg donor which has resulted in the birth of seven babies and it’s through these experiences that I continue to make the creation of families my priority.

I have spent over a decade and a half perfecting the complicated process of building families through surrogacy and egg donation with the knowledge and experience I have gained and shared with my staff. I will always make sure my team puts your interests and needs first. I am confident in our ability to make your experience enjoyable and as memorable as possible.

At Surrogate Alternatives, my employees are like family to me, I want them to feel like they are sharing in my success, because without them, I wouldn’t be able to live out my dream of helping others.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Surrogacy itself is very controversial. Not everyone believes what we do is helpful or morally right. We get feedback on our Facebook page as well as private messages that are not kind, however, we have helped created over 2,500 families in the last 2 decades so I know we are doing changes lives, for the better.

In all honesty, this industry is pretty cut throat and ruthless. Some see it as an easy way to make money without requiring a formal educational background. I have personally had employees I trusted go on to start their own surrogacy agencies. I have even learned that they planned months in advance (i.e. chose a name, signed up for a website, etc.), preparing themselves, all while still working for Surrogate Alternatives. You have to have tough skin, that’s for sure. At the end of the day it’s about fulfilling the dreams of people who just want to become parents; a human right and one that isn’t always easy to come by.

Please tell us about Surrogate Alternatives.
Surrogate Alternatives specializes in third party reproduction. We assist those who are looking to expand their family, to start their family and those who have had obstacles to overcome through infertility.

We have a dedicated support team that is in charge of attending appointments with our surrogates so they never feel alone. We pride ourselves on making sure we provide the highest level of service possible. We are available 24 hours for emergencies and have many support groups, pages, social media accounts, etc. to learn about the surrogacy process, go to for support, to answer questions and ensure anyone with questions receives an answer.

I believe our experience and the last 20 years make us more knowledgeable. We have learned from issues that have arose and have found ways to better our company and evolve with the industry.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I believe I would have put more thought into certain things, the way situations may have been handled. I would not have been so trusting.

It’s difficult because in this type of industry, creating families, it’s all about new life, compassion, kindness and love.
