Meet Sydney Graves

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydney Graves.

Sydney, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m a self-taught photographer living her sweetest life on the coast of Huntington Beach, Cali. It all started with a passion for art and design, and with the gift of a camera from my Dad in high school. Capturing, creating and connecting through photography are ways I use my creativity and God-given artistic abilities to glorify Him, that way there is a purpose in what I do. I take no credit for my photos but look to the one who allows me to use this gift to point others to Him by seeing the beauty of His creation. If I’m not taking photos, you’ll find me in the HB sun and waters, hanging with my people in coffee shops, finding inspiration while adventuring outdoors, traveling and exploring new places, or spending time to learn the Word of God. It is always with my greatest joy to capture your moment digitally, on film, or both!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Being your boss always makes things run smoother. Creating my schedule with photography jobs while still having the freedom to create on my own and pursue other priorities in my life is the dream! There are always times where I feel burned out or get in a creative block, but those times force me to venture outdoors to find new inspiration or take those times to rest and reflect.

Please tell us about your work.
Using His creation to create, I wish for others to recognize the beauty of God’s creation, whether it be themselves or surrounding nature. How can you miss it when it is all around us?! The dreamy coastal pallet bringing the neutrals and earth tones is where I find myself creating the most. Photography always reminds me of how amazing and loving our Father is to choose us to dwell in such beauty, giving God all of the glory.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I believe success is not solely based on accomplishments, money or fame, but when others are left inspired by the work you create, and the feeling of how valued and loved they are.
