Meet Taylor Ricketts

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Ricketts.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I began video editing back in high school when my close friends and I started a Youtube channel. I realized how much I loved the space and decided to pursue an education at The Art Institute in North Hollywood where I got my BS in digital filmmaking and video production. Straight out of college I began working in unscripted television as a casting editor (This was exciting because I got to work on projects for almost every major cable network out there). Despite keeping busy with working in television, I would shoot and edit my own side projects which is where I discovered my knack for wedding/event videography. But it doesn’t stop there because my freelance work brings many other projects my way. It keeps me on my toes!

Please tell us about your art.
My medium has always stayed in a digital form (which can be unforgiving at times). Every video comes out completely unique as every subject has their own vibe, but my style tends to lean towards slow and “moody.”

My vision is to always tell a story…If it’s a wedding video, a digital look book, or even just pretty footage paired with music… I’m always trying to make it visual poetry.

When it comes to inspiration, music is HUGE. Not only when it comes to brainstorming ideas but in the videos themselves. The songs play a massive role in how the viewer feels watching a video so most times picking out music is the hardest part of my editing process, but when the music cuts perfectly to the music… it gives me an adrenaline rush.

What do you think about the conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
Life for an artist is definitely hard since you need to stay up to speed, but technology has really opened a lot of doors. I think communities can encourage local meetups and social media can generate groups to stay connected and collaborate on projects. This is where FB really comes in handy!

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
You can check me out at moonlightmedia.net or @moonlightmedia on IG!

The best way to support my work is to follow me on social media, share my videos, or let people in need of a videographer know you heard of a rad chick who can get the job done 😉
