Today we’d like to introduce you to Teddy Osuna.
Teddy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up, I was always really interested in many different art forms, but I quickly realized that I wasn’t very good at many of them. I couldn’t really draw anything, singing definitely was out of the question, and I couldn’t really get the hang of playing an instrument. So, after trying all of these different things I just decided that I can admire it all as a fan. Until one day walking through Costco, I picked up a little point and shoot camera and thought, hey this would be pretty cool for me to take pictures of my daughter. And that’s what I did for a couple of months. Then, I quickly learned the limitations of the camera, no interchangeable lenses no manual settings what so ever. So then, I began doing some research into what cameras would be good for a beginner. I spent months looking into it until I finally went to a local camera store, and they sold me on a Nikon D3100. I used that camera to teach myself all the fundamentals of photography. I would spend hours on YouTube looking up tutorial after tutorial. I’d ask friends and family if could take their pictures just so that I could practice. I then enrolled in a beginners photography, and videography class at Palomar College that made me really step out of my comfort zone, and think outside of the box. After taking those classes, I was asked by a Local artists Bassem G if I’d like to shoot a music video for him, and a photoshoot after the music video. I said sure even though I was scared to take on a role like this, I had my cousin Byron next to me helping with the production side, and hyping me up as if I’ve done this a thousand times. After finishing that first video and photo shoot, I was instantly hooked on creating as much content as possibly could. So, thankfully, I finally found an art form that I am passionate about, I am really grateful that I have surrounded myself with people who truly believe in me, and push me constantly to become better at my craft.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. 2018 was the most challenging year for me so far. In January of that year, I had a disc herniation that made it unbearable for me to do some of the most simple tasks. Then, in June of that year, I had to undergo back surgery to fix the problem. It was one of the scariest things that I’ve gone through, because of the risks that came along with it, but fortunately, I came out much better. Also, juggling home life and raising my two kids isn’t always a walk in the park, but most certainly worth the time and effort that I put into it all.

Even if we are out of our comfort zone, we make sure to keep a calm head to make sure that every one that is involved feels comfortable.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory growing up is one that I hold near and dear to my heart. While living in Ohio as a kid one Christmas, my mom and I lived alone, but the rest of our family lived either in California or Guatemala. So, my mom wanted us both to get dresses up really nice to take a couple of pictures so that we could send them to the family that lived so far away from us. So, my mom took a few photos of me and I thought it was something really fun, but then it was time for me to take pictures of her. I snapped off a few pictures of her then looked at my mom then looked down at the camera that I was holding and said to her, “you know mom one day, I really want to become a photographer.” My mom looked at me and told me that’s what I wanted I’d have to work towards it. I then continued to take pictures until the role of film ran out.
