Meet Teresa Graves of Legacy K9 Training

Today we’d like to introduce you to Teresa Graves.

Hi Teresa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I created Legacy K9 Training for a number of different reasons. One reason being the ridiculous amount of dogs being housed in shelters, many because of behavior problems. And when you look at the majority of dog trainers, they’re charging people an arm and a leg to help their dogs. I found that to be completely unacceptable considering in America a $100,000 salary is categorized as low income. I knew I had to do something to help these dogs and their humans, so I created Legacy K9 Training to provide top-notch dog training and other k9 wellness services at an affordable price. And all of the services I provide I travel to the client to perform. I will do everything within my power to keep as many dogs in their homes and out of shelters.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It, of course, hasn’t been a smooth road; there have been many struggles along the way. I started my business literally right before the whole world shut down due to Covid, which was disheartening to say the least. However, I will say it forced me to really lean into my faith because, for a long time, that’s all I had to keep going. I think most people would have given up if they were in my position because Legacy K9 Training was looking pretty lifeless for about a year and a half. I found purpose when I created my business, and I wasn’t about to give up on that; my mission was and is too important to me and the individuals that have been and will be dependent on me to do what I do.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Legacy K9 Training?
Legacy K9 Training is a mobile dog training/ wellness business. I specialize in dog behavior modification, leadership, and communication. I also teach dog owners how to care for their dogs, such as healthy food and treating non-emergency ailments and injuries. I understand the difficulties that come along with sharing space with a dog on a daily basis, especially when there’s a communication barrier; that’s where I come in to bridge the gap. I pride myself on the level of customer service I provide and the undeniable love I have for these dogs.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
I have a lot of great childhood memories, but if I had to pick one, it would have to be one of our many family trips to Big Bear. My friends and I used to skateboard when we were kids, so we thought it would be cool to take our boards, without the wheels and trucks, of course, out to the snow and use them like snowboards since we couldn’t afford real snowboards back then. We had the best time even though we were ridiculously sore the next day from all the falling we did.
