Today we’d like to introduce you to Teresa Mazzarella.
Teresa, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I founded FNL Health because I wanted to help people, especially women, navigate fitness, nutrition and a healthy lifestyle (including mindset and emotional health). My vision is teaching, inspiring, and empowering you to live confidently, successfully, happily, and with fulfillment – outside of just your physical body.
As a personal trainer for the last five years, I have encountered so many of the same questions and struggles that people experience, and I want to be a resource that enables them to develop balanced, informed, sustainable, and healthy habits.
My mission also comes from my personal experience. As a woman who dealt with, but also overcame, multiple eating disorders, body dysmorphia, and extreme insecurity and self-esteem issues, I want to help other women move forward past those things, as well.
I know how challenging and intimidating it can feel when your physical and mental health are not balanced, and it is my goal to help women create that balance in their lives. To improve their physical health, but not at the cost of their mental well-being.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Absolutely not. Living with my eating disorders and body dysmorphia for over four years was the hardest time in my life. I felt like a failure almost daily, my relationships (especially with myself) suffered, I had basically zero confidence and belief in myself, and I hated my life. It was absolutely an all time low for me, and I am SO THANKFUL that I had the support of my husband, my family, and a therapist. I don’t know if I would have ever overcome my eating disorders, and the beliefs that go with them, if I did not have that support.
It’s the reason why supporting other women, and hopefully keeping them from going down the same road I did, is so so close to my heart. I never want another woman to feel like she is alone in her health journey because she isn’t.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
FNL Health is focused on improving your fitness, nutrition, and lifestyle. Some of the ways that we do that is through:
-personal (and group) training
-nutrition workshops
-corporate wellness presentations and seminars
-public speaking engagements
-our YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxEH69l80LtfKZcmgi6N0Kw)
-and The FNL Journal (www.FNLjournal.com)
The FNL Journal is something I am super proud of. It’s a six month planner-style journal for women, to help them create a balance between their physical and mental health. I created The FNL Journal because I found that there wasn’t anything out there that specifically focused on integrating physical and mental health- which I believe go hand in hand. You can not fully thrive in one of them, without the other. It’s the tool I wish I would have had when I was going through my health journey, and so far all of the women who have been using it love it! That really fills my heart with joy, to know I am helping someone else, and that they are now happier, more successful, more confident, and more fulfilled because of it.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have sought out help sooner. Navigating through life can be REALLY hard, especially when you feel like you are doing it alone. Whether you need help with your physical health, mental health, business, relationships or something else- don’t be afraid to ask for help! There is no shame in that, and it doesn’t make you weak or incapable. If anything, it shows that you are really invested in and committed to your own growth!
