Introducing Theo Ivey and Anthony Russell.
Theo and Anthony, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My name is Theo Ivey and me along with my best friend and business partner Anthony Russell started training at the Oceanside Dance Academy under the direction of Jocelyn K. Wilson in 1995. Under her guidance, we developed into skilled dancers and more importantly forever passionate about the art of dance. We have been dedicated teachers at the studio for over 20 yrs.
In 2010, Ms. Jocelyn as she was known by her students sadly passed away leaving the studio to her daughters who we purchased it from in 2018. At the time of purchase, the opportunity to merge with the cross town studio in our city was presented to us creating the largest dance studio in north county.
In the summer of 2019, we added another location in San Marcos, Ca. called Dance FX. In addition to our Temecula location, Temecula Valley Dance Academy, we currently have three dance studios.
Has it been a smooth road?
Like any worthwhile venture, it has had its struggles. Money being the biggest lol. There are unfortunately not many resources to aid those who don’t have assets to fund and support business ventures, Particularly for minorities aspiring to be in business. California is an expensive place to do business but this our home and our community and the rewards are worth the challenges. Having a business that creates an impact and makes a difference in children’s lives is the ultimate reward. We hope to be able to give back to future minority business owners with everything we are learning on this journey.

We are a dance studio focused on excellence in dance education for children ages two and a half through adults. We offer classes in Jazz, Ballet, Hip Hop, Tap, Contemporary and Tumbling for our students. Our instructors at all of our locations are passionate, knowledgeable and focused on not only building the skills of the dancer but also their character as human beings through the art of dance. At our schools, we believe that every dancer has something special that makes them unique and we make it our mission to find that and celebrate that within each student.

The cities that we have locations in Oceanside, San Marcos and Temecula are all amazing communities where people live, work and raise their families. It is always important to know and understand the demographics of your proposed location for your business and be confident that you have a product that there would be a demand for.
