Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Wray.
Tim, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I began my musical and professional adventure in 1993 when I formed the band Fat Paw based out of Park City Utah. We are a popular local and regional touring act, opening shows and tours for many top acts throughout the years, performing at many Sundance Film Festival and SXSW in Austin, Texas.
I have 4 albums out, 2 with Fat Paw and 2 Solo records. Songs I have written have been included in programs on Showtime, HBO, Discovery Channel, MTV and independent films. I moved to Encinitas, CA in 2010 and began playing solo shows around North County and continued to play with Fat Paw back in Park City. I have toured as a solo artist in Hong Kong, Europe, England, Ireland, Whales and all around the western U.S. I continue to play shows here in San Diego and am looking forward to the Festival circuit for Fat Paw next summer.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are many highs and lows of being a professional musician, I’ve definitely had my share. It’s not the easiest way to make a living. After years of dealing with the adversity of it all, you kind of let all the small stuff go and just really enjoy what you have created. I’ve been able to travel, play my music, meet amazing people along the way and call it my life. All good!
What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I am a singer-songwriter and guitarist, I front the band Fat Paw based out of Park City Utah, and perform solo acoustic shows. I love the mix of playing both types of shows, the band shows are high energy, fun, electric guitar, Hammond organ, bass, big drums, full sound. The solo gigs are totally different, mellow, intimate, quiet, more singing and song-oriented than guitar jams. Both bring out music I love to play, just completely different art forms.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I lived in Europe when I was a kid, I think some of my favorite memories are traveling by car on road trips around Europe with my family. It sparked an interest in travel, other cultures, and places at a young age that I’ve had all my life. Traveling as a musician has always felt right to me like life was just supposed to be that way.
