Meet Toby Ogden of Vista

Today we’d like to introduce you to Toby Ogden

Hi Toby, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey into photography started with a deep love for storytelling and capturing real, unscripted moments. I picked up my first camera years ago, initially just documenting life, travels, and friends. But it wasn’t until I shot my first wedding that everything clicked—I realized the power of freezing time and preserving emotions in a way that people could cherish forever.

In 2010, I took the leap and went full-time with Toby Ogden Photography, focusing on weddings. Over the years, I’ve photographed hundreds of weddings, each one unique and filled with incredible moments. My approach has always been about blending authenticity with artistry—creating images that feel timeless but also full of life and emotion.

Along the way, I expanded my services beyond just photography. I now offer wedding videography, 35mm film photography for a nostalgic touch, content creation for couples wanting social-ready clips, and even a photo booth experience for events. It’s all about giving couples a complete, immersive way to remember their day.

Beyond weddings, I’ve also developed a strong passion for fine art photography—particularly oceanscapes and natural textures. I’ve been working on a coffee table book that brings together some of my favorite images, blending photography and storytelling in a way that feels personal and immersive. These passion projects keep me creatively inspired and push me to explore photography beyond client work.

What’s kept me going all these years is the connection I build with my clients. Being a part of such a huge moment in their lives is something I never take for granted. I don’t just want to take photos—I want to tell a story that feels personal, real, and true to them.

Today, my business continues to grow as I refine my style and expand my services. But at the core, it’s still about the same thing that got me started: capturing love, connection, and the moments that matter most—whether that’s on a wedding day or through a fine art piece that tells a deeper story.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Let’s just say the journey hasn’t always been smooth. Every couple of years, I switch things up, always looking for ways to improve—not just as a photographer, but as a business owner, a husband, and a dad. I’m constantly learning—whether it’s adapting to new marketing strategies, mastering the latest gear, refining my workflow with new software, or just figuring out how to balance it all.

Balancing a growing business with family life is a constant challenge, but each year, I get a little better at it. I keep pushing forward, chipping away at my goals while staying focused on what matters most. 2025 is shaping up to be an exciting year, and while challenges will always come up, I see them as opportunities to grow.

I’ve learned that struggles are just roadblocks waiting for a solution. As long as I put the energy into improving, I know I’ll figure it out, adapt, and come out stronger.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a photographer and filmmaker specializing in weddings and family photography, and I truly love what I do. I shot my first wedding nearly 20 years ago, and since then, I’ve had the honor of working with hundreds of families—capturing everything from proposals and engagements to weddings, maternity, newborn, and family portraits.

With all the experience I’ve gained, I’ve learned how to help couples feel comfortable in front of the camera. So many people tell me they’re “not good with photos”, and I love proving them wrong—because it’s always fun and natural when we work together. My goal is to capture who they truly are, not just how they look.

I bring a documentary mindset and a creative realism approach to every session, focusing on genuine emotions and real moments. It’s about telling a story—one that feels natural, beautiful, and uniquely yours.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The wedding industry is more competitive than ever—there are countless photographers, content creators, and even AI stepping into the space. With technology improving so rapidly, anyone can pick up a camera and take a decent photo.

But what’s really going to set photographers apart isn’t just the quality of their images—it’s the experience they create. It’s about how you connect with people, how you serve your couples, and how you communicate. If everyone is delivering great photos, then photography becomes a commodity—and in that case, what truly matters is you.

The way you make people feel, the trust you build, and the experience you provide will be the biggest differentiator in this industry. More than ever, who you are will matter just as much—if not more—than the work you produce.
