Meet Togo Lakes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Togo Lakes.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Togo. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born and raised in San Diego, California. My parents immigrated from Togo, a small country in West Africa that most people have never heard before. Being a left-handed person, I was naturally very creative and taught myself how to record videos and edit them on the computer. Next thing you know I’m attending The Art Institute of California and making funny improv videos with my friends.

After that, I started posting weekly random entertaining videos every Tuesday on YouTube and selling pretty cool merch, which led to somehow along the way creating the popular movement/brand known as TogoTuesdays.

My videos eventually got me signed with Engage Artists Agency, and I’ve been engaging with them ever since.

These days I’ve been working on short films, feature films & tv pilots. Whenever I’m not writing, I’m thinking about writing. My goal is to continue using my talents to their full potential and to inspire & give back to the community.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s been a Marathon, and the Marathon must continue. The biggest struggle that came along the way was when all my camera equipment was stolen from my apartment. I was devastated, but everything happens for a reason because I became best friends shortly after with my cinematographer, who I probably would have never worked with if I still had owned my camera at the time. Me losing my camera, made me gain much so more than what I thought I had lost, so in the end, I didn’t lose, I won! #Winning

Please tell us more about your work.  What else should we know?
I am an entertainer, actor, writer, and YouTube personality who produces comedy sketches, parodies, social experiments, and short films.

I am known for creating the movement/brand TogoTuesdays. One of my most viral videos has been shared by numerous celebrities such as Akon & Krept and Konan. My merch for my brands consists of really nice jackets & sweaters that my supporters that I call “TogoFam” love! I truly enjoy creating entertaining content. I’m always thinking of random stuff that makes people laugh.

I’m most proud about doing what I love and being able to inspire people to follow their dreams. Making sure whoever is watching me to know I want them to have a great day and to see them smile. I love looking back and seeing my journey on how far I’ve come. What sets me apart from others is being myself, because make no mistake that there’s only one Togo Lakes!

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would do everything the same because I feel like when you go through life, you learn valuable lessons that you can only learn from experience. Besides, since I was a kid, I always ” learned the hard way”, but now as an adult, I will continue to work & smarter towards my goals!
