Today we’d like to introduce you to Tom Haubrick.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I was born and raised in Los Angeles California. At a very early age, I knew I wanted to be an artist, and have very little interest in other things besides that. I don’t have any sort of degree in art but have been taking classes since I can remember. During the time I was about to transfer to a local art college I took up an apprenticeship in tattooing. A year after that I opened a tattoo shop with a couple of great friends. 5 years ago I moved down to San Diego to help me grow as an artist and move my career forward to where it is today. I now work with some of the greatest people\artists I’ve had the pleasure of meeting.
Please tell us about your art.
Nowadays I paint mostly with ink and wash. With my own personal work, I take inspiration from everywhere. Early on in my “career”, I painted a lot of characters based on personal feelings and experiences. After a few years, I started to experiment more with techniques, compositions, patterns, and character design for a story that I am perpetually writing. When it comes to tattoos I try my best to put my own personal touch on other peoples ideas. I guess I just hope people find some sort of enjoyment when looking at my art, but to be honest I guess I’m not too worried what most people think as long as I’m enjoying what I create.
We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
Let’s see… it’s as easy as going out to where other artists are. Gallery shows, art classes, local drink and draws, etc. oh ya and, don’t be a dick. There are way too many artists that I’ve met that think they’re God’s gift to the art world. It’s a real bummer when I see that. There will always be artists worse than you, and there will always be artists way better than you. Most of us have a long road to the top, and its best not to step on everyone on the way up. 🙂
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
You can check out my artwork at www.tomhaubrick.com. Or more updated pictures of my work on Instagram. I do have a few art shows in the works later on this year. But I’ve stopped doing as many art shows as I used to. I’ve been concentrating a bit more on tattoos lately.
