Hi Tomas, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Sit’s Getting Real Dog Training is a positive reinforcement-based dog training company. The company was founded in 2019 when I decided to step away from my job working as an Animal Control Officer for San Diego County! The decision was made due to a growing desire to start bringing education to the community about dog behavior and training. I spent years prior working with and training various kinds of animals, as well as attended school to get my certification for dog training. After partnering up with several local rescues, tireless marketing, and referrals we grew. I eventually had to bring on Amanda who is now equal partner in the company. We are a team of two for now, servicing the entire city of San Diego! We offer group classes as well as private lessons at reasonable rates. Our priority is encouraging and cultivating a happy healthy relationship between the dog and owner. We continue our work helping local rescues and continue to thrive and grow thanks to the amazing community of San Diego!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road! But it has been an amazing road! The business is young, and as a brand new business owner, I had no idea what COVID-19 had in store for us. Slow growth exploded into rapid growth as people brought new dogs into their homes! We persevered and pushed through. Some days were so intense we wanted to pull our hair out, but we adjusted so we could continue to provide quality, positive reinforcement based training to San Diego and to continue our mission of helping as many of our community pets stay out of shelters and rescues, or find new loving homes and remain in them as possible!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are Dog Trainers specializing in positive reinforcement-based techniques. We are known for building up a comfortable learning environment for dogs and their owners that ensure information and learning can continue to flow! Brand-wise, I am most proud of the care and attention each individual client receives. We are there to support, encourage, and set up each person we work with for absolute success. We work very hard to make sure our clients know just how much they mean to us! Everyone should know that hiring us means you are hiring a dog trainer that will be there for you every step of the way!
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Networking is vital! Word of mouth is your best friend! And finding organizations that will value your experience and service is vital for growth! Partnering with rescues and helping them with adoptable dogs was the most valuable move we could have made. The symbiotic relationships we’ve developed with them has been beneficial for everyone all around.
