Today we’d like to introduce you to Tony D’Aula.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Tony. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up in Queens, New York, Joined the Navy in 1986. While enlisted I earned how to weld, fabricate steel do repairs of equipment, systems etc. Honorably discharged 1990.
Back in New York, I knew I had to find a better way to live. Slowly worked my way west. In 1993 landed in Leucadia and stayed in North County. Purchased my property in 1999, slowly transformed the place to be my garden gallery, decorated with my original artwork, Fire Sculptures, comfortable custom made outdoor lounge spaces.
Started hosting events that at first were small, 50, 60 guests, then getting more popular once had 600 guests for Halloween party. Some friends said they would like to use the space for their campover wedding so then started to let others use the place for their private parties. My metalshop is here as well and many of my pieces are in some of the most beautiful homes and gardens. Most of my clients will come to an event in the garden and see an existing piece that they want for their homes.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There have been many challenges. Being an artist/entrepreneur can be very stressful. The luxury of not having a boss to answer to is evened out by the challenge of marketing yourself in the digital world., The struggle to not sell yourself short and connect with clients that value the product that I’m offering…
Please tell us about The Fire Garden.
I specialize in custom metalwork, fire sculptures, furniture, structures, art installations. My second passion is hosting events in my garden gallery. Inspiring those who come to experience what I have created. My property has been host to numerous styles of events, photo shoots, music videos and feature films. I love knowing that what I provide cannot be found anywhere else on the planet.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I could go back in time I would tell my future self to save money, think before you act, trust your gut and don’t take your defeats personally.
