Meet Traci Wooden

Today we’d like to introduce you to Traci Wooden.

Traci Wooden

Hi Traci, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I do believe I was guided to this place in my life from the time I was six years old when I started having issues with my site. I was misdiagnosed by my teachers at the time and my parents were told that I would need extra help with my reading. I was enrolled in a one-on-one tutorial program for two years after school to help me keep up with the reading and spelling parts of class. Though the teachers saw little improvement in class participation, my test scores went up and my reading and comprehension was extremely high for an eight-year-old by the time the tutoring ended. In fact, by the time it was discovered that I had a severe case of myopia (nearsightedness), I was reading at the nineth grade level, and I read whatever I could get my hands on. I loved being transported into other worlds, times or places and I was in awe of the authors who could take me there with their writings. It is what I aspired to be and sometimes dabbled at when I was restricted from going to the library but my academic and professional career took me on a scenic route to the work that fed my soul. It took three decades before I would write my first novel and once I began, I was hooked.
Once I wrote and sold my fifth novel, I began to receive requests for help from other writers and aspiring authors. I helped where I could but was limited by time and, in some cases, money. I was prompted to start a publishing company that would educate, assist and offer complete publishing and promoting services for authors so they could realize their dream as I had.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As a writer, it has been a pretty smooth road. My only real challenge was not giving into procrastination. Inevitably I would come up to a deadline and write like my hands were about to fall off but I would get it done on time and promotions would go forth. Business has not been as smooth. It took two years and nine publishing projects to rein my spending in so that if I didn’t make a profit, I would at least come out even and be able to put money back into the business. I had run my business like a hobby, and I was failing fast.
I wanted to give my clients the very best, which meant time, professional services and the promotional backing that would help them succeed. I didn’t charge enough for my professional services or my time. Since it came easier to me than others, I took both my expertise and time for granted and thus understated the value of my services. Eventually I saw the pinch in my pocket and had to adjust my thinking.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have been blessed with many gifts. Most of them have been acquired in roundabout ways. My grammar and grasp of the English language comes from early childhood tutoring. My graphic skills were honed at a newspaper in Los Angeles right after college where I earned my degree in Journalism. My customer service skills were sharpened while working as an office manager in a church for 11 years. As a Christian fiction author and publisher, I utilize these skills every day and I love it! I have learned so much more about the industry, being able to work on different aspects of books.
Though publishing took a front seat for a few years, I believe I have finally found a healthy rhythm and am excited about releasing my 15th book in total and sixth book in my most popular series.
I believe my experience and passion for the written word and people sets me apart as an author and a publisher. I’ve experienced the excitement and anticipation as well as some of the disappointments of being a published author. I have learned through research and trial and error what draws readers to certain books, and I use that knowledge for my clients’ benefit.
I am proud that 80 percent of the books I have published for others have reached the number one spot in their categories on Amazon and I am proud of the third award “The Prayer Warrior” a book I co-wrote, has received. The American Legacy Book Awards presented “The Prayer Warrior” with the first place in the Inspirational Fiction category.

What matters most to you? Why?
My integrity and my clients’ satisfaction matter most to me right after pleasing God. He has given me this gift and passion and I would be doing me and Him a disservice if I didn’t do everything I could for my clients while seeking Him for guidance and clarity in everything. I wouldn’t have this joy or livelihood that feeds my soul if it weren’t for Him.
